NMBC: 12th Annual NM-AZ Book Award Winners

The winners in the 2018 New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards were announced this week at a gala awards banquet at the Tanoan Country Club in Albuquerque.
 
Awards were presented in 58 categories, from poetry to history and nonfiction to children’s books.
 
1,089 books were entered in this year’s awards program and 236 of those entries were selected as finalists, which were announced in September 2018.
 
Entries came from large and small publishers from all across the country. Any books by Arizona or New Mexico authors or publishers were eligible as well

Los Alamos Little Theatre has announced it has received a generous donation from the estate of John Longer.

Longer was a longtime LALT member who passed away in 2006.

“John produced and appeared in many of our melodramas over the years,” LALT Board member Paul Lewis said. “He was also instrumental in a number of building improvements, including our bathroom renovations and light booth construction.”

Award winning Katsina Carver Gerry Quotskuyva will present and demonstrate katsina carving at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18 at Millicent Rogers Museum (MRM) in Taos.

Gerry Quotskuyva is the 2018 Rollin and Mary Ella King Native Artist Fellow at the School for Advanced Research. He is a member of the Bear Strap Clan from the Hopi Second Mesa village of Shungopavi and the grandson of an established katsina carver. Quotskuyva will provide a demonstration on katsina carving and discuss his work.
