UNM-LA Presents Gift To Pat Soran
At the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board meeting Nov. 13, UNM-LA CEO Dr. Cindy Rooney presented Advisory Board member Pat Soran with a ceramic vase created by instructor Barb Yarnell in appreciation for the ceremonial mace, which Soran provided to the college for the May 2017 graduation. Soran created the mace, incorporating a unique UNM-LA symbol provided by instructor Skip Canfield. The public is invited to hear San Ildefonso Pueblo Potter Barbara Gonzales speak at 10 a.m., Wednesday in the library at UNM-Los Alamos.
Gonzales, the great-granddaughter of Maria Martinez, is known for intricately carved red, black and polychrome bowls, inlaid coral and turquoise and her “good luck spider” motif.
