Artist and instructor Lisa Coddington is returning to teach a one-day workshop on drawing using botanical and natural subjects at the Los Alamos Nature Center.
 
This class, made possible by Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), is great for all skill levels. The workshop runs 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 7. Register to learn techniques for creating realistic, still life and nature-inspired art.

SANTA FE  A few days after his new book comes out, Santa Fe artist Paul Pletka will give a lecture 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the New Mexico History Museum auditorium. 
 
The lecture entitled Converging Rituals of Faith in the New World will be followed by a discussion with curator Andrew Connors of the Albuquerque Museum. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will be showing the much-anticipated boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 with under-card matches.

What makes this fight interesting is that McGregor, a mixed martial arts champion is making the move from the Octagon to the ring to compete in a 12-round boxing match against Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers of this era.

Our last three acts are Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys playing this Friday at Ashley Pond Park, Aug. 25 followed by the ‘80s and ‘90s rock band, The Paladins, Sept. 1 and we finish up the year Sept. 8 with Metales M5 – The Mexican Brass.

Los Alamos Children’s Dentistry has adopted the three mesa gardens at the Los Alamos Nature Center.

This generous gift will help the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) maintain the gardens for a full year. The three mesa gardens include a pollinator garden, a native plant garden, and a water-wise garden. The gardens are in full bloom right now, making it a perfect time to visit the nature center and take in the flowers.
