Would any history museum in this area of New Mexico be complete without a piece of pottery by Maria Martinez, the famed Potter of San Ildefonso? For me, the answer is “no.”

The Los Alamos History Museum is fortunate to display two unique pieces.

WalletHub News:

Countries all around the world have their own unique New Year’s traditions. Many places feature customary cuisine, such as lentils (Brazil and Italy), suckling pig (Austria) and grapes (Spain). But you obviously don’t need to go global to learn a lot about New Year’s.

We have plenty of customs right here at home, from watching a giant crystal-covered ball drop in Time’s Square and drinking sparkling spirits at midnight to eating Read More

Classical Music World: Concert Hall Tours

By ANN MCLAUGHLIN, Artistic Director
Los Alamos Concert Association

I don’t really have a bucket list, but I’d like to hear as many of the world’s great orchestras in their home halls as I can before my expiration date rolls around. My husband Bill and I try to take in concerts when we travel and enjoy guided tours of the halls as well.

On two visits to Amsterdam in the last couple of years, we have attended performances in the storied Royal Concertgebouw, a hall famed for its fine acoustic qualities. I had always imagined that this hall would be as lavish as the word “royal” implies, but on a tour our guide Read More

Cinema Cindy: Rogue One – A Star Wars Story

By Cynthia Biddlecomb
Los Alamos

“Rogue One” squeezes into the Star Wars narrative chronology just before the story portrayed in the first film, Star Wars IV: A New Hope (1977).

Billed as a standalone story, it answers questions about what was going on in the Rebellion against The Empire when Princess Leia messaged Obi-Wan Kenobi, “You’re our only hope!”

Rogue One features a cast of new characters. Jyn Erso is only about six years old when she loses her parents. Her father, Galen, is recaptured by the Empire to continue his work on a major weapons project, while her mother makes

Cinema Cindy Reviews: Arrival

By Cynthia Biddlecomb
Los Alamos

“Arrival” is the latest truly science fiction movie to hit the screens. Loosely based on a short story by Ted Chiang entitled “Story of Your Life”, the film puts flesh on the story’s bones.

In my opinion, the visual story works better as a whole, giving us more time to delve into the experience of space aliens visiting our planet.

Amy Adams plays Louise Banks, a professor of linguistics,
