Registration is open for this year’s Los Alamos Family YMCA Soccer programs.

UK Soccer Camp for ages 4-16 is July 30-Aug. 3.

The six-week season for Fall YMCA KinderKick Soccer for ages 3-4 and 5-6 starts Aug 27.

Business Leaders Advocate for LANL Budget

A delegation of New Mexico business leaders will travel to Washington D.C. July 16 and 17 to discuss the importance of Los Alamos National Laboratory to the state’s economy.

The delegation will be accompanied by Gov. Susana Martinez’ Chief of Staff Keith Gardner and Los Alamos County Council Chair Sharon Stover.

Stover is a member of the Regional Coalition of LANL Communities, which traveled to Washington, D.C., on a similar mission in March. .

Bandelier Reduces Fire Restrictions to Stage I

Bandelier National Monument Superintendent Jason Lott has announced that effective this evening, Stage II Fire Restrictions no longer apply for Bandelier National Monument.

These restrictions are reduced to Stage I in light of the increase in moisture and reduction of fire danger.

Under Stage I Fire Restrictions, smoking outside of vehicles, open campfires outside of developed campsites, and fireworks are prohibited.

West Road Closed Today for Debris Cleanup

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Public Works Department reports that Wednesday’s rain storm resulted in about a foot of water flowing through Los Alamos Canyon and the Ice Rink parking lot.

County crews had completed barrier work around the rink in June to provide protective measures to the Rink, and the barriers held up well – no water entered the Ice Rink and there is no damage to that structure.

Pavement Division Manager Tom Roach has indicated that DOE has reported they will close West Road today to allow their crews to enter and clean up road debris.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tom Udall announced today that Taos and the Kewa Pueblo (formerly Santo Domingo) will receive $150,000 in matching grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town program to revitalize the local economies through the arts.

Los Alamos Aquatomics hosted the Nick Nogar Memorial Invitation Swim Meet June 23-24, at the Walkup Aquatic Center.

Swimmers from as far away as Texas were among the 175 swimmers from 11 teams who participated in the event.

This meet was dedicated to Nick Nogar, a former Los Alamos High School, University of New Mexico and U.S. Masters swimmer.
