LAMS Student Wins Second Place in Supercomputing Challenge

Los Alamos Middle School student Cole Kendrick took second place for his project, “Computer Simulation of Dark Matter Effects on Galaxy Collisions.”

Kendrick received a check for $500. He also received the $100 Crowd Favorite Award chosen by teachers and students and the Best Presentation Award.

Kendrick took the top prize in last year’s Supercomputing Challenge for his computer program to model the rotation of a galaxy including dark matter.

Contestants Sought for Queen’s Court Competition

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division is hosting the Queen’s Court Competition on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

The competition will determine the Los Alamos County Fair and Rodeo Queen, Princess and Sweetheart.

Categories include:

 

  • Queen Contestants (Ages 17-25)
  • Princess Contestants (Ages 14-16)
  • Sweetheart Contestants (Ages 10-13)

CIP Evaluation and Oversight Committee Meets Thursday

The County’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Evaluation and Oversight Committee will hold its monthly business meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, April 26 in Council Chambers, located inside the Community Building at 475 20thSt.

The Committee will continue discussions about the CIP criteria and overall CIP process, as well as discuss the update about CIP discussions at the recent budget meeting held by the County Council.
