The unrelenting heat wave that held a firm grip on New Mexico this past week continues to plague the state. There are encouraging signs that the high pressure dome will weaken later this month and the monsoonal moisture may finally find its way to New Mexico.

Until it does, fishing will be best early in the morning and late in the evening. Streamflows continue to drop and anglers are encouraged to let the trout rest in the middle of the day when the stress of the heat will make it difficult for them to survive being caught and released.

SANTA FE The Department of Game and Fish is seeking public comment on proposed revisions to the Bear and Cougar Rule (19.31.11 NMAC), which opened at the State Game Commission meeting April 28, 2023.

SANTA FE Santa Fe Community College announces that Vanessa  Rodriguez was selected as the SFCC FamilyU Student Parent Fellow.

Rodriguez, 21, is pursuing a certificate in phlebotomy and an associate degree in biological sciences. In addition to being a student and mom to a 2-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter who she shares with her husband Joab, she also works fulltime.

The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors are sad to announce the passing of Board President Theo Barela Wednesday morning. He was serving his second year as president.

Barela went the extra mile to make the Hall of Fame events special for the honorees. He also positively impacted the community in a variety of ways. Barela was a Menual School (1970) and UNM (1975) graduate who was in hotel management since 1975 across the country. County: Open Gym Volleyball And Tae Kwon Do Program Changes Through June 30

COUNTY News:

Due to maintenance at the Los Alamos Middle School throughout the month of June, the Community Services Open Gym Volleyball and Tae Kwon Do programs will experience temporary location and time changes through June 30, 2023.

Open Gym Volleyball will be held 8-10 p.m. Mondays at Pueblo School and the Tae Kwon Do program will move to Barranca School, with their existing hours of play remaining the same.

Melaki Gutierrez (4th from left) competed June 3 at the Great Southwest Track & Field in Albuquerque, placing 5th overall in the 100 with a time of 10.56. Gutierrez also placed 3rd overall in the 200 with a time of 21.28. Gutierrez was part of a relay that took 1st place with a time of 40.53, which ranks them number 12 in the nation and puts them at number 7 all-time for the Great Southwest Classic.
