Governor Issues Statement On Death Of Former Vice Chairman Of Navajo Nation Edward T. Begay

From the Office of the Governor:

Edward T. Begay, vice chairman of the Navajo Nation in the 1980s, died Sunday, according to his family. He was 87.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement on Sunday:

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of former Navajo Nation vice chairman and council speaker Edward T. Begay. Throughout his years of service, he was a strong advocate for preserving and maintaining Navajo culture and traditions through the nation’s government, and his work was instrumental in negotiating the nation’s first gaming compacts with the state.

Summit Garden Club News:

The Summit Garden Club is honored to award the 2022 Pat Edmonds and Sue Graves Memorial Scholarship to Maya Clausen.

Clausen, a graduate at Los Alamos High School, was an officer on Student Council all four years. She also enjoys dance – ballet, jazz, modern, swing and musical theater.

She will be attending New Mexico State University this fall majoring in Biology. Her career goal is to be a part of conservation of Earth’s natural resources for future generations. Read More

Los Alamos Creative District: Tuesdays At The Pond Line-Up

The Los Alamos Creative District has announced the schedule for the Tuesdays at the Pond summer performance series 2022.

The Tuesdays at the Pond 2022 season is sponsored by Zia Credit Union.

Performances are 6-8 p.m. on the stage at Ashley Pond Park, with opening acts starting at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday, May 31 through Aug. 2, with the exception of the Tuesday following the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

County Invites Public To Pueblo Canyon Trail Conceptual Plan Meeting June 1 Via Zoom

Los Alamos County Community Services Department (CSD) is working with Design Office, a professional consulting service to provide a conceptual design and layout to enhance and expand existing biking trails within Pueblo Canyon, and invites the community to join a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 1, via Zoom.

FBI: New York Man Arraigned On Santa Fe Bank Robbery

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Marc Candelaria, 34, of Wantagh, New York, appeared in Federal Court May 19 for an arraignment and detention hearing where he was charged with bank robbery.

Candelaria will remain detained until space is available at La Pasada Halfway House, where he will be on conditions of release pending trial.

A federal grand jury indicted Candelaria May 10. According to the indictment, Oct. 30, 2021, Candelaria allegedly robbed the Bank of America on Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe.

If convicted, Candelaria faces up to 20 years in prison.

The choral/dance performance of “The Cell Block Tango” will be included in the re-scheduled May 18 LAHS choir concert. 

This letter is a warning to families that the content of the show will not be family friendly.  The song/dance “The Cell Block Tango” is rated for ages over 13.
