In honor of Women’s History Month, the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) is highlighting two trailblazing New Mexican women:

The first woman elected to statewide office in New Mexico was Secretary of State Soledad Chávez de Chacón, who served from 1923 to 1926.

She also was the first Hispanic woman in the United States to be elected to a statewide office and went on to serve in the New Mexico House of Representatives in 1934.

Early Morning Traffic Controls On Canyon Road March 1

Crews from the Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities will be doing work at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1 on the shoulder of Canyon Road near the bus stop in front of the Aquatic Center.

While the work is expected to be completed in under an hour, traffic controls will be in place. Cones will make a slight traffic diversion and the bike lane and sidewalk will be closed in the work area.

An FBI billboard campaign begun in Albuquerque that warns violent criminals they will be targeted for federal investigation and prosecution has expanded to Las Cruces.

AG Balderas Announces Former Taos DA Investigator Sentenced To One Year For Distributing Child Abuse Material

ALBUQUERQUE — Tomas Trujillo, a former Taos District Attorney Investigator, was sentenced by Judge Glenn Ellington Friday to serve one year in jail.

Trujillo pled to one count of sexual exploitation of children by distribution and faced up to 11 years in prison. Trujillo was formerly an affiliate of the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which trained him to investigate the very crime of which he was convicted.
