Los Alamos Retirement Community Announces New Executive Director Stella Terrazas

Stella Terrazas is the new executive director of Los Alamos Retirement Community for Sombrillo Nursing Home.
 
Terrazas was born and raised in Las Cruses where she attended New Mexico State University and earned a BA in Business Administration. She is preparing to take the New Mexico Nursing Home Administration Board Exam.
 
She has been the past director of Aspen Ridge Lodge and successfully administered the Assisted Living facility for several years.
 
Terrazas provides great respect and dedication to the Los Alamos Retirement Community

AFTNM/ATF Lawsuit Against NMPED Concludes With Motion For Preliminary Injunction Today

SANTA FE  American Federation of Teachers New Mexico and the Albuquerque Teachers Federation’s District Court lawsuit against the New Mexico Public Education Department concludes today with the plaintiff’s motion for a preliminary injunction.
 
This lawsuit seeks to provide relief to educators across New Mexico by pausing, and eventually seeking to prevent the use of high-stakes testing in the evaluation of education professionals.

Food, Art, Culture All Part Of Jemez Pueblo ‘Open Air Market’ Oct. 10-11

JEMEZ SPRINGS — Spectators at the Balloon Fiesta will get an eyeful of colorful scenery and culture at the 13th annual Jemez Pueblo “Open Air Market,”from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Oct. 10 and 11, at the Walatowa Visitor Center near Jemez Springs, just north of Albuquerque along the scenic Jemez Mountain Trail.

Spectators can sit against the backdrop of the beautiful terra cotta colored Jemez Red Rocks and get a taste of Jemez Pueblo culture with a number of traditional food items such as Indian Tacos and fry bread sold by pueblo vendors.

Halloween is just around the corner which means we will soon be seeing jack-o-lanterns staring at us from porches and sidewalks.
 
But pumpkins have many other uses besides scaring trick-or-treaters. Pumpkin are actually winter squash, all of which originated in the Americas. Evidence of pumpkin-type seeds has been found in Mexico dating between 7000 and 5500 BC.
 
There are many varieties of winter squash including Hubbard, butternut, acorn, spaghetti and pumpkins among others.

First off, congratulations to our First Meet swimmers Sofia Lopez and Aihnoa Briano-Medina.
 
They both did really well and placed in the top 8 in their age groups in at least one event. Congratulations also to Natalie Crawford, who participated in her second meet, and swam really well.
 
Congratulations to Wayne Williams who had best times in every event he swam! Eight for 8 is hard to do! Kudos to Caleb Cook, Marlee Katko and Olivia

White Rock Power Is Restored

COUNTY News:
 
UPDATE – The DPU has announced that power has been restored to White Rock, with the exception of the Fire Station, Metzgers, and the Hampton Inn.
 
Power is expected to be restored at 4:30 p.m. to these three facilities.
 
The cause of the outage was determined to be a switch near White Rock Fire Station #3 on N.M. 4.
 
The DPU earlier announced that power went out at 1:20 p.m., and effected some 800 customers east of Rover blvd., which expanded to the entire community.
