This is a suggestion for the branding of Los Alamos.
 
First I must say how much I dislike the term branding. It suggests a hot iron applied to my backside but we may be stuck with the term as long as the county is spending money on branding.
 
Los Alamos has a golden opportunity to become a serious tourist destination. In the last year we have added two National Parks, the Valles Caldera and the Manhattan Project. Since Bandelier is also part of the National Park System, we can claim to have three National Parks in the vicinity.

Having a water-conserving landscape doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t include grass.
 
New Mexico State University turfgrass specialist Bernd Leinauer has developed a subsurface drip irrigation system that reduces water usage by watering grass at its roots. He will host a hands-on workshop Friday, July 17 at the Los Alamos Demonstration Garden.
 
Participants will learn irrigation basics and help install a subsurface drip irrigation system during the  9 a.m. to noon workshop. Subsurface drip can reduce water used for irrigation by 20 to 30 percent,”

IBWA Applauds House Action To Ensure Healthy Water For National Park Visitors

Research Reveals Trends And Risk Factors Behind Growing Heroin Epidemic

Heroin use has increased across the United States among men and women, most age groups, and all income levels.
 
The greatest increases have occurred in groups with historically lower rates of heroin use, including women and people with private insurance and higher incomes.

Red Canyon Fire Consumes 17,843 Acres

MAGDALENA  The Red Canyon fire on the Magdalena Ranger District remains at 17,843 acres. 
 
The lightning-caused fire is located in the San Mateo Mountains, 2 miles southeast of Grassy Lookout and 27 miles southwest of Magdalena. Resource Specialists are gathering information on heritage sites and range improvements in the current management area and fire crews are implementing fire protection preparations on those identified sites.
