The Los Alamos Elks Lodge is hosting a Flag Day Ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at the Elks Lodge on Trinity Drive next to Sonic. The event includes a talk on the history of the American flag, a flag folding demonstration and instruction on the proper way to dispose of a flag, with a flag burning ceremony to follow. The Los Alamos Elks Lodge will provide free hot dogs, chips and cookies to those who attend the event. For more information, contact the Elks at 662-5611.

School Board to Hold Executive Session at 5 p.m. Tuesday Followed Immediately by Regular Meeting

The Los Alamos School Board has scheduled an Executive Session for 5 p.m., Tuesday June 12 at Los Alamos High School.
The stated purpose of the closed session is to discuss Superintendent Gene Schmidt’s employment contract.
The board also is scheduled to discuss “limited personnel meetings involving recent personnel decisions.”
Following the Executive Session, the board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in regular session in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.

Coop Market Launched Inagural Bike Swap Sunday

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market hosted its inagural Bike Swap Sunday to provide the opportunity for bicycle enthusiasts to sell and buy quality used and new bicycles, parts and accessories.
The Los Alamos Singletrack Association (LASA), an International Mountain Biking Association affiliated club sponsored the event.
A portion of each sale (10 percent) went to LASA.
LASA President Scott Weiss said the proceeds will be used to work with Pajarito Ski Hill to build bike trails at Pajarito.

Golf Course Dedication Ceremony Honors Ed Griggs
All the carts are loaded and ready to go at the start of the tournament. At the go signal everyone goes dashing off to their assigned tee – the official start is called a “shotgun” start, which is now a horn blast. The Ed Griggs Memorial Strong Kids Classic held at the Los Alamos Golf Course Saturday honors noted golfer Ed Griggs who passed away last year. He played his final round of golf in the Strong Kids Classic tournament last year. It is the second major fundraiser of the year for the Los Alamos Family YMCA. There were 28 foursome teams entered in the best ball scramble tournament.
