County Animal Shelter Offers 2 for 1 Cat Deal

All cats are on sale – “two for the price of one” – at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter, so if you can’t make up your mind, don’t worry, take them both home.

Most cats love having a playmate.

This week’s featured pet is a short-haired feline named Allie whose primary color is calico.

Allie, 10, is house-trained, declawed, spayed and up-to date with all her routine shots.

She was given up for adoption when her owner left for college.

Prescribed Burn Begins Today

A 144-acre prescribed burn is planned in the Santa Fe National Forest, Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District beginning today if conditions are favorable.

Fire managers plan to treat 50 to 100 acres per day within a two day period.

The name of the project is the Southwest Barbero prescribed burn.

The treatment is expected to take place 12 miles south of the Rowe/Glorieta Mesa near Forest Road 124, and 12 miles south of Pecos.

Treatment will be by hand ignitions.

Toppers Win Big at Los Alamos Classic Invitational

Los Alamos High Schools girls took first place Saturday at the Los Alamos Classic Invitational with 164 points..  Hope Christian was second with 148 points.  The Topper boys took first with 171 1/2 points while Hope Christian had 124 1/2 points.

Taiji as Spiritual Practice

Beginning in April, the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos will offer a series of eight Saturday morning Taiji (T’ai Chi) classes to study the Yang Style 24 Forms. Classes will begin on Saturday, April 7th  from 11 AM to noon in Robinson Hall.

No previous experience is necessary. Classes will explore proper body alignment with coordination and flexibility exercises, and breathing techniques to cultivate the flow of Qi, or life energy. Progress Rolls Forward at White Rock Visitor Center

There has been much progress in the White Rock Victor Center site work and most of the underground utilities are almost complete.

Other site work that is on-going includes: placement of drainage drop inlets, corrugated metal piping in Canada for new driveway and on the RV parking areas.

Placement of masonry block for a dumpster enclosure and cistern tank is scheduled to be completed by the end of this week.
