OSI Underscores Importance Of Home Hardening, IBHS Standards During Wildfire Awareness Month

SANTA FE — As part of its Wildfire Awareness Month news release series throughout the month of May, the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) is reminding New Mexico residents that the Wildfire Prepared Home program is an important resource to not only protect homes and businesses against wildfire, but also provides an avenue to lower insurance rates.

The program, developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), gives residents the opportunity to receive a certificate for taking steps to mitigate their home and property against wildfire. Read More

Piñon Park Pool Set To Open Memorial Day Weekend

Los Alamos County staff have been hard at work at Piñon Park Pool, in White Rock, and are happy to announce its opening date of Saturday, May 23, 2026!

Piñon Park Pool is open to the public, and Los Alamos County Aquatic Center pass holders can also utilize the facility.

The Piñon Pool Association previously ran Piñon Pool; however, they closed the facility in 2025 due to a lack of memberships. Los Alamos County reached out to the owner of the property, Attack Research, and secured a lease in February 2026 to operate the pool from May 2026 to October 2026.

The Topper baseball team traveled to Albuquerque to play postseason games against the Academy Chargers. The Chargers won both games 9-1 and 13-6 which closed out the Toppers season. FBI: Shiprock Man Sentenced For Unprovoked Assault

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — A Shiprock man who stabbed an individual three times in the back without provocation was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, April 19, 2025, Matthew David Charley, 30, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, approached John Doe and his friends near a roadside area in Shiprock and introduced himself.
