Update: Right-Turn Lane On East Jemez To Close Jan. 11

COUNTY News:

The free right-hand turn lane from East Jemez Road to N.M. 4 will be closed Thursday, Jan. 11 so that crews can directionally bore a space for conduit to be installed at the median in the southeast corner of N.M. 4.

It is anticipated this closure will only be needed for one day.

Eastbound traffic on East Jemez Road will be able to turn right to access southbound N.M. 4 at the traffic signal at the intersection of East Jemez Road and N.M. 4.

Traffic headed in this direction Jan. 11, 2024 should expect delays.

Los Alamos County officials wish to remind citizens that it is not too late to express interest in filling the position of Probate Judge, to be vacated Feb. 2 when the Honorable Michael Redondo resigns.

The temperatures in Los Alamos County tonight are forecast to drop into the single digits.

The County is encouraging residents during extreme cold weather conditions to follow safety tips to keep loved ones, pets and homes safe.

  • Bring PETS INSIDE: keep outdoor cats inside, walk dogs on a leash and dry their fur and paws when bringing them inside, move livestock to sheltered areas with non-frozen drinking water.

Guaje Pines Cemetery Sales And Operations Consolidating Into County Parks Division Effective Feb. 1, 2024

Los Alamos County is consolidating sales and operations of Guaje Pines Cemetery into the Parks and Open Space Division to improve customer service beginning Feb. 1, 2024.

The Parks office at Pajarito Cliff Site at 101 Camino Entrada, Building 5, will become a one-stop-shop for those wishing to purchase cemetery plots, as well as those making burial arrangements.

DPU: What Is A Gas Recovery Charge?

COUNTY News:

With temperatures dropping and heaters running, staff at the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) have been hearing the question, “Why is there a gas recovery section on my bill?”

The gas recovery charge is a temporary natural gas cost recovery mechanism to cover a $2.2 million shortfall that occurred when commodity gas costs spiked last winter. This charge was approved by the Los Alamos County Council last March and DPU began billing it in April.
