Atomic City Transit service will resume Tuesday, Dec. 26 with the exception of Peak Service on Route 6 (PM). Peak Service on Route 6 (PM) will resume Jan. 2, 2024.

New Year’s Eve Skate Celebration At Los Alamos Ice Rink

The Los Alamos County Ice Rink is hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration to welcome the New Year.
The party begins at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31 and comes to a close at 1 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.
Music may be heard into the late evening hours by neighboring residents. However, all are welcome to join the festivities. Complete with a minicarnival, music, popcorn, bubbling cider and a Ball Drop countdown at midnight, the Ice Rink is the perfect place to ring in the New Year.

Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-Use Trail Project Construction Activities: Week Of Dec. 18
Los Alamos County Public Works Division is under contract with Hasse Contracting Company Inc. to construct the Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-use Trail Project.
During the week of Dec. 18, Hasse Contracting will continue construction activities within the Fuller Lodge Grounds adjacent to Central Avenue.

County: Joint Meeting With LTAB & TITF Set For Dec. 19
A combined meeting of the Los Alamos County Lodgers’ Tax Advisory Board (LTAB) and the Tourism Implementation Task Force (TITF) will be held noon Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Los Alamos County Council unanimously appointed Anne Laurent as the new County Manager during a special meeting this morning.
Laurent serves as deputy manager, along with Linda Matteson and will take the reigns from County Manager Steven Lynne who is retiring in March.
“I just want to thank the council,” Laurent said after the vote. She also put a plug in for the Leadership Los Alamos program, which she graduated from in 2010.

County Accepting Applications For Board Of Public Utilities
Los Alamos County is accepting applications to fill one position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).
Comprising five voting members, the BPU governs the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a county-owned utility that provides Los Alamos with electric, water, natural gas and wastewater services.

Los Alamos County Council struck down two ordinances that addressed animals – wild and domesticated – during its meeting Tuesday.
The first ordinance proposed updates to Chapter 6 of the Los Alamos County Code, which addresses animals in the County.

Update On Friday Dec. 15 County Council Meeting
The Los Alamos County Council meeting scheduled for Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, will be held in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave. as planned.

Update On Trash And Recycling Services For Dec. 15

Los Alamos, New Mexico — Los Alamos County Environmental Services trash and recycling collection for Friday, Dec. 15 will include both Thursday and Friday routes, due to the suspension of services on Dec. 14 for extreme winter weather.
Crews will work hard to complete both routes on Friday to the best of their ability but may need to extend efforts into next week.

A section of Arizona Avenue near Woodland Avenue will have traffic controls in place Tuesday, Dec. 19 and Wednesday, Dec. 20, while Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) water crews work on an 8-inch water main.
Drivers in the area are asked to follow flagging directives and exercise caution if they must pass by the work zone.
DPU crews do not anticipate any disruptions to water service in the area.

Due to hazardous weather conditions, Los Alamos County Manager Steven Lynne has ordered a full closure today, Dec. 14, for all non-essential County government employees.
County services and facilities are impacted:
- Atomic City Transit will provide limited dial-a-ride service as able until 5:30 p.m. Regular fixed-route service is canceled. To schedule a ride, call 505-661-RIDE (7433).
