County Eco Station & Overlook Convenience Center To Close Over Lunch Dec. 13 For Holiday Celebration

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Environmental Services Eco Station at 3701 East Jemez Road and Overlook Convenience Center at 500 Overlook Road, will close during the lunch hour noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 so staff may attend annual holiday celebrations.

“We appreciate our customers for understanding and allowing us this short break.”

Anyone needing to stop by the Eco Station or Overlook is asked to do so outside of the closure window.

Except for this short closure the Eco Station is open 7 days a week – 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m to 4:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Transportation Board will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023. This meeting will be conducted in-person at the Municipal Building, Council Chambers.

County: Water Break Repair Underway In Western Area

COUNTY News:

Water crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) are repairing a water break on 45th Street off of Sandia Drive.

The break is near the northwest corner of 45th and Sandia. All houses on the 45th/46th streets loop north of Sandia are without water service while the break is being repaired.

The work is expected to be completed by 4 p.m. today. Drivers are asked to either avoid the work zone or exercise caution if they must approach the area.

Los Alamos County government officials encourage residents to participate in the ongoing public comment period for proposed ordinance 02-306 to amend the Chapter 6 animal code.

DPU Announces Electric Reliability Measure Exceeds Goal

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has announced that in November DPU exceeded a goal for electric reliability that felt unreachable in the not-too-distant past.

The DPU uses the SAIDI, short for System Average Interruption Duration Index, as a measure of reliability. Simply put, it is a calculation of the average amount of time that an electric customer can expect to be without power per year, and the lower the number, the better. A rolling average that is recalculated monthly, the DPU has a long-standing goal of 60 minutes.

Council Seeks Letters Of Interest For Probate Judge Vacancy

Los Alamos County Councilors are seeking letters of interest to fill the position of Probate Judge. On Nov.  30, 2023, the Council was informed that the current Judge Michael Redondo would resign effective Feb. 2, 2024. Judge Redondo was elected to the position in the November 2022 General Election.
