Atomic City Transit Issues Service Announcements

ACT News:

Atomic City Transit (ACT) Peak Service on Route 6 in the afternoon will resume starting 3:05 p.m. to 6:21 p.m. only Monday, Oct. 30.

Peak service is highlighted in yellow on the timetables found on the ACT Routes & Schedules page.

Real-Time and Service information on the app or the ACT Tracker for Route 6P will not be available for 2-3 weeks.  

Also, as part of the implementation of the recently updated 5-year transit plan recommendations, Route 2P (White Rock Peak Service) will be permanently discontinued. This route has not been in service for several years.

Fuller Lodge Art Center Is Currently Closed However Events Are Taking Place As Planned

The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) has announced that The Fuller Lodge Art Center is currently closed; however, classroom programs remain open. The board made the difficult decision to close the art center on Oct. 22, and let staff go because of funding challenges, which are being resolved. Additionally, the executive director is on leave helping her young teen recover from a traumatic car accident.

County: First Half Of Property Taxes Due Dec. 11

COUNTY News:

Property tax bills for 2023 will be mailed to property owners by Los Alamos County’s Finance Department by Nov. 1.

The deadline for the first half of property taxes is Dec. 10, but has been extended to Monday, Dec. 11 due to the weekend. It is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure property taxes are paid to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.

County Customer Care Center To Close Briefly Oct. 31

COUNTY News:

The lobby-facing windows at the Los Alamos County Customer Care Center in the Municipal Building will be closed for an hour during the business day, 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, while staff attends a county-wide employee appreciation luncheon.

The Customer Care Center is typically open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Staff will respond to voice mail and email messages when they return to the office. Those customers who prefer to interact with staff in person are asked to do so outside of that one-hour time frame.

Parks Crew To Remove Hazardous Trees At Ice Rink Oct. 26

The Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division will close the County Ice Rink parking lot 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 to remove two unsafe trees from the property.

The tree removal is part of the temporary chiller repair that is ongoing to ensure optimal ice temperatures throughout the coming winter skating season, until permanent repairs can be made.

County Environmental Services To Be Closed Veterans Day

Los Alamos County Environmental Services will be closed Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day. This includes operations at the Eco Station and the Overlook Convenience Center.

There will be no residential or commercial trash collection service provided on Friday. If the observed date falls on your normal trash or yard trimmings collection day please place your materials out Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Los Alamos Halloweekend—a spooky series of activities for the entire family—begins Friday, Oct. 27, with the featured event Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet running 4-6 p.m. downtown.

Main Gate Park RV Dump Station Closed For Repairs

COUNTY News:

The Main Gate RV dump station at 2700 East Road was closed for repairs beginning Monday, Oct. 23  and will reopen Friday, Oct. 27.

The dump line has been clogged due to damage from rocks being thrown into it.

Los Alamos County Parks Division is working to repair the line and remove rocks from the area. A concrete pad is being added to the dump station spigot area to eliminate unwanted items from entering the lines.

While repairs are being made, citizens can utilize the dump station at the White Rock Visitor Center RV Park at 115 N.M. 4.
