Electrical Fire Burns Press Box At North Mesa Ball Fields

LAPD News:

An electrical fire this afternoon has burned the press box at the North Mesa Ball Fields.

Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) and Los Alamos Fire Department personnel had responded to the scene after the dispatch center received calls from the public around 2:03 p.m. today stating that the dugout at the ball fields was on fire.

Los Alamos County Launches Vaccine Availability Webpage

Los Alamos County (LAC) Social Services Division has launched a Vaccine Availability webpage on the County’s website that provides a list compiled by LAC Health Council to help navigate finding vaccines in the county.

Community members can utilize this new resource to find locations providing COVID, RSV, and/or flu vaccines; ages the location is serving, clinic hours and contact information, as well as registration information.

North Bound Lane Closure On Diamond At Canyon Today

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division crews will close the north bound bike lane on Diamond Drive beginning at the Canyon Road intersection at 8:30 a.m. through noon today, Oct. 20, weather permitting.

Field modifications allow the bike lane to shift over to the right north bound lane. Vehicle traffic will use the left north bound lane. Vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic are urged to slow down and watch for traffic signs and devices to guide them through the construction zone.

Aquatic Center Therapy Pool Closed Until Further Notice

COUNTY News:

Due to a mechanical failure with the Therapy Pool at the Walkup Aquatic Center, the Therapy Pool will be closed until further notice.

Los Alamos County Transportation Board Update On Approval Of FY24 Snow And Ice Removal Plan

Council Greenlights Improvement Projects For Golf Course

After years of effort to improve the Los Alamos County Golf Course, the work paid off; Los Alamos County Council approved Oct. 10 two bids that focus on bettering the maintenance and safety at the golf course.

Council unanimously approved a bid that totals approximately $5.5 million and a budget revision of about $1.6 million. Deputy Public Works Manager Eric Martinez explained this bid will improve holes one through 18. This includes improvements to tees, bunkers and greens as well as two new restrooms.

DPU To Debut Thermal Cameras With Ghost Hunt Oct. 28

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will launch its next conservation and energy efficiency tool—a thermal camera—on Nov. 1 through the Library of Things. Atomic City Transit Announces Service Updates

Atomic City Transit Route 2M will be reinstated starting Monday, Oct. 23.  

In addition, a Dial-a-Ride service will be implemented before the regular bus service begins for the day.

Dial-a-Ride will operate 5:15-6 a.m. and 6:30-9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is open to the general public.

Call 661-RIDE (7433) to schedule your trip. Dispatch will take calls beginning at 5 a.m. and will only accept requests for same-day service. Dial-a-Ride is an “origin to destination” service operated primarily curb-to-curb.

Los Alamos County Ice Rink Parking Lot Closure Tuesday … Oversized Load Transport Wednesday

The Los Alamos Public Works Department will close the ice rink parking lot at 4 p.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 to install a temporary chiller. This is a slight logistic change from the Oct. 16 date the department reported last week.

Additionally, an oversized load carrying a crane and equipment for this project is scheduled for Wednesday morning that could slow traffic on N.M. 502 and Trinity Drive.

Los Alamos County’s Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule reminds individuals who live or work in Los Alamos County that it is not too late to complete the Climate Action survey.
