Friends Of Los Alamos County Libraries To Host Bag Sale

The Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries (FLACL) will hold a bag sale, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 in the lobby of Mesa Public Library at 2400 Central Ave.

This year, in addition to a variety of fiction and non-fiction books, there will be a large collection of hardcover science fiction and mystery novels. Time to stock up for the winter!

The cost is $8 per bag. FLACL will provide the bags, courtesy of Smith’s. Cash, checks and credit/debit cards will be accepted. (Books and other items inside the bookstore are NOT part of the bag sale.)

The current state of the Department of Public Utilities’ (DPU) Utilities Assistance Program is grim. The program has a balance of $15,695. Considering that the program awarded $25,000 in assistance in the last fiscal year, its current balance wouldn’t be able to provide the same amount of assistance this year, and that is assuming the amount of need doesn’t change. Every year the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) runs the torch to promote awareness and to raise money for Special Olympic Athletes in Los Alamos and around the State. This national non-profit program unites police officers and Special Olympic Athletes, which build great relationships between Athletes, their families and Law Enforcement.

SANTA FE – New Mexico set another quarterly record high in spending, $8.67 billion, measured by Matched Taxable Gross Receipts (MTGR), in the fourth quarter of the 2023 fiscal year (April, May, and June 2023), according to the Quarterly Economic Summaries published today by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD).

Los Alamos Police Hold 2023 Fall DEA Drug Take Back Day

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will be conducting its biannual DEA Drug Take Back Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

The drop off location will be in the north parking lot (off Central Avenue) of the Los Alamos Police Department.

Items that have not been accepted in the past include: Needles/sharps, any liquids or creams, and aerosols/compressed medications. For this event, LAPD will have supplies available for people to dispose of their liquids, creams and aerosols on site. A sharps container also will be available for injectable medications.

Atomic City Transit: Route 2T Detoured Due To Construction

Due to the N.M. 4 and Truck Route intersection lane closure to White Rock, Atomic City Transit Route 2T will initiate a detour down the Main Hill Road (N.M. 502) to White Rock.

Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.

Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields tonight, Oct. 7, 2023, at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 7:30 p.m. until at least 10:30 p.m., and as late as midnight if there is continued interest.

The Los Alamos County Parks Division reports several incidents of vandalism over the past two weeks at two county parks.

Damages include clogging urinals and toilets with mud and debris in the restroom facilities at the Rover and North Mesa parks.
