County: Human-Wildlife Interactions Educational Session During Bear Month

In celebration of Bear Month, the Los Alamos County Council has announced an educational session on the do’s and dont’s of human-wildlife interactions. This program is in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and hosted by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).

County Announces Loma Linda Road Improvements Project

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Public Works Division is under contract with Albuquerque Asphalt, Inc. to start work on the Loma Linda Roadway Improvements project on La Mirada Circle, La Tierra Road and Loma Linda Drive in the Loma Linda neighborhood.

The contractor is performing preliminary work such as mobilization, construction staking, and staging area setup. This work will be in preparation to start construction work activities soon after. The project scope was presented to the public at the regularly scheduled Transportation Board held in June.

Congratulations to the winners of the Los Alamos County Fair Blue Ribbon Homemade Pie Contest, held on Saturday, Aug. 12, and an appreciation to all who entered the contest. 

Judges had a great time tasting the entries and quite a challenge in choosing the overall winning pie.

The winners of this year’s Blue Ribbon Homemade Pie contest are:

  • Grand Champion overall pie – Lena Ziele, Apple pie;
  • Reserve Grand Champion overall pie – Joan Stockam, cherry pie; and

Los Alamos County Council voted unanimously to proceed with a temporary fix for the County ice rink’s chiller system during its regular meeting Tuesday night.

The motion that was passed agreed to contract American Arena for $450,000 to install the temporary chiller system.

Community Greenhouse Gas Emissions Study Kicks Off

Los Alamos County’s Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule has announced that a study to determine the community’s greenhouse gas baseline kicked off in June.

Gurule plans to present an overview to councilors at the Aug. 22 council meeting on how this project will proceed, including the public and stakeholder feedback piece. She adds that these findings will then be incorporated into a subsequent climate action plan. The Aug. 22 meeting begins at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers in the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.
