The proposed new complex of 8 tennis courts at Overlook Park, which the Parks and Rec Board recently voted to deliver to County Council for their consideration, may cause some citizens to have questions, like “why now?” or “why do we need more tennis courts?” or “what about pickleball?” or “why is Overlook Park the right place?’’

Aquatic Center To Close Dec. 5 To Calibrate Equipment

COUNTY News:

Beginning 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, the Aquatic Center will be closed to allow crews to fine tune and calibrate equipment associated with the Olympic pool’s new filtration system.

The Olympic Pool will be available for morning swim use before the 8 a.m. closure and is scheduled to re-open the following day Dec. 6.

DPU & Customer Care Closed For Appreciation Lunch Dec. 2

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) administrative office and the Customer Care Center at 1000 Central Ave., Suite 130, will close during the lunch hour 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

County: RediNet Internet Remains Down

COUNTY News:

RediNet internet access is still experiencing an outage.

“The good news is” RediNet folks believe it will be back up some time this afternoon.

County services that use RediNet will be unable to access the internet during this time.

Examples include:

  • MyDrive traffic cameras;
  • Public Wi-Fi at all county sites and downtown; and
  • Public library kiosks at both libraries.

County Council Adopts Revisions To Nusiance Code

Adopting a revised Chapter 18 of the Los Alamos County Code, which deals with nuisances, barely passed with the needed votes but ultimately it did 4-3 during Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Councilors David Reagor, Melanee Hand and Council Chair Randall Ryti opposed the adoption while Councilors David Izraelevitz, Sara Scott, Denise Derkacs and Keith Lepsch supported it.

Community Services Hosts Golf Shop Holiday Sale Dec. 10

The Community Services Department has announced that the Golf Shop at the Los Alamos County Golf Course will be hosting its Annual Holiday Sale 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.

Finger foods and holiday refreshments will be provided, and each shopper will be given a balloon to pop to get their discount amount. They will then be eligible to putt for a chance to increase their savings. Discounts will range from 5 to 25 percent.

Starting Monday, Dec. 5, contractors for Los Alamos County will be constructing drive pads at 1216 and 1407 Central Ave.

Motorists are asked to use Trinity Drive to access 1407 Central (Subway).

Motorists are asked to use the entrance on Knecht Street to access the following businesses:

  • Shannon Corporation;
  • The Karen Wray Gallery;
  • Los Alamos Daily Post; 
  • Atomic City Quilts;
  • David’s Barber Shop;
