Los Alamos County To Hold Emergency Exercise June 14

Los Alamos County’s law enforcement, first responders, dispatchers and staff from other County departments will participate Tuesday, June 14 in a functional emergency exercise.

Developed by the Department of Public Utilities, the exercise simulates a threat to the Los Alamos Canyon Dam.

The exercise will test the viability of the County’s Emergency Action Plan for the Los Alamos Canyon Dam.

The exercise will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end by 12:30 p.m. It will be followed by an after-action meeting with exercise participants to assess response effectiveness. Read More

Eileen Sullivan, library manager of the Los Alamos County Library System since July 2017, will be retiring June 24.

A resident of New Mexico since 1987, Eileen has more than 35 years of experience working in academic, special, and public libraries as well as experience in the field of telemedicine.

Prior to moving to Los Alamos, she was the director of the Silver City Public Library in Silver City.

Sullivan was the president of the librarians’ sub-section of the New Mexico Municipal League and served on the board of the New Mexico Library Foundation.   Read More

Public Invited To Share Thoughts On North Mesa Gym

Public input is being sought on a proposed shared-use gymnasium in the North Mesa area at the Los Alamos Middle School campus.

A virtual public meeting was held on the project June 1.

During the meeting, Public Works Project Manager Sara Rhoton provided some background on the gymnasium.

Library Summer Reading Programs Get Underway

Adult and youth summer reading programs are now underway at Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library.

Intersection Striping Project On Diamond 2 AM June 10

COUNTY News:

Traffic and Streets crews will be striping the intersections of Trinity and Diamond and Canyon and Diamond 2-5 a.m. Friday, June 10.

Crews will close lanes intermittently as needed and a flagging operation will be in place.

Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to follow all traffic control devices and slowdown in the work areas.

With an increase in positive COVID-19 cases emerging across Los Alamos County, more individuals and families are faced with the need to test for the virus.

Viral tests are done one of two ways:

  • via a rapid point-of-care test; or
  • a laboratory test.

The County COVID-19 Committee explains the difference, as well as the pros and cons of each option.
