County Councilors Host Booth At Farmers Market Thursday

COUNTY News:
Two Los Alamos County Councilors, along with the Racial Equity and Inclusivity Task Force, will host a booth at the local Farmers’ Market 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
Market-goers are encouraged to stop by and chat with them about current issues, projects or other topics.
County Council hosts a booth at the outdoor Farmers Market twice per month during the warmer season. This will be the last opportunity to talk with Council at the Market until next year. Read More
Moderna Booster Vaccine Clinic Set For Sunday Oct. 31

Los Alamos County, the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) and Trinity Urgent Care will hold a vaccine clinic to administer a single Moderna booster (third dose) for select populations who received the Moderna vaccine as their primary series (first two doses).
The clinic is 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31 at the Los Alamos High School Auxiliary Gym.

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities customers may receive an automated phone survey sometime between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4
The purpose of the three-minute survey is to assess the effectiveness of the DPU’s public awareness program designed to promote natural gas safety for all stakeholders, including customers with and without gas heaters or appliances.

Power Restored To Majority Of North Community Customers

Update: As of 3:50 p.m., power is fully restored to all affected customers in North Community.
COUNTY News:
Power has been restored to the majority of customers in North Community as of 2:50 p.m. today. Approximately 20 customers are still without power near 47 Street and Arizona Avenue.
The cause of the outage is due to a failed switch on Arizona Avenue.

BPU Oks Request To Increase Loan For White Rock Plant

Members of the Los Alamos Board of Public Utilities (BPU) voted unanimously in favor to approve Ordinance 712 at last Wednesday’s board meeting and to forward it to the County Council for consideration.

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that as of 9:50 p.m. today power has been fully restored to the Los Alamos townsite.
The DPU reported earlier this evening that Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) substation that feeds the Los Alamos townsite had lost power as of 7:42 p.m. today.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update Oct. 22: 982 New Cases, Totaling 268,891, 14 New Deaths, 238,146 Recovered
STATE News:SANTA FE — State health officials announced 982 new COVID-19 cases today in New Mexico.
Los Alamos County reported 2 new cases today, bringing the total to 791 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
This update includes 14 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:
- 228 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 27 new cases in Chaves County
- 9 new cases in Cibola County
- 9 new cases in Colfax

Power Outage Affects Los Alamos Townsite

COUNTY News:
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) substation that feeds the Los Alamos townsite lost power as of 7:42 p.m. today.
LANL crews are investigating.
DPU electric linemen are on standby.
Once LANL restores power, DPU linemen will re-energize the townsite one circuit at a time.
The estimated time for power to be fully restored is unknown at this time.

County Steering Committee Tackles Signage Standards

Work progresses on revising Chapter 16 in the Los Alamos County Code, known as the development code. Tuesday, Oct. 19, the steering committee formed to revise the code met to offer its thoughts on proposed signage standards.
The meeting, which was led by Jessica Lawlis of Dekker, Perich, Sabatini, the firm contracted to assist in the effort to revise Chapter 16, addressed what types of signs are allowed and prohibited, the permitted dimensions of signs in different districts and the regulations for sign illumination.

Beginning Tuesday Oct. 26, the Los Alamos County Council meetings will return to a Zoom-only format in response to the rising number of COVID-19 positive cases within Los Alamos County.
