Customer Care Center Moving To B&C Room Thursday

COUNTY News: 

Los Alamos County’s Customer Care Center, operated by the Department of Public Utilities, will temporarily relocate from its existing offices into the Boards and Commissions (B&C) Room, Suite 110 near the stairs when entering the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.

The move takes place Thursday, July 1, 2021, so the existing Customer Care space can be remodeled to enhance privacy for individuals conducting business with the County.

Customer Care representatives expect to be back in their offices by early September.

Code Ordinance 02-317 proposes the creation of the Downtown Pedestrian Retail Overlay Zone (DT-PRO). It was passed by the Planning and Zoning Commission and will be introduced next week for a hearing by the County Council on July 27.

The ordinance has technical and legal defects, would not accomplish its intended purpose, and is an illegal and unconstitutional intrusion on the property rights of our struggling downtown business community. I urge Los Alamos Citizens to oppose this ordinance and the County Council to defeat it.

Ribbon Cutting On Play structures At Rover Park Monday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Community Services Department is excited to announce that the Rover Park update is completed and the park has reopened.

The Rover Park project was one of many projects that the County was working on during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

Construction Closes Canyon Rim Trail At DP Road Crossing

COUNTY News:

As part of the ongoing DP Road reconstruction activities, the Canyon Rim Trail will be closed at the DP Road crossing today, June 25, reopen for the weekend and close again Monday, June 28 through Wednesday, June 30.

During these closures, no access across or to and from the Canyon Rim Trail will be available at DP Road.

Additionally, Monday, June 28 through Wednesday, June 30, a contractor will be working at the side of the trail just west of the DP Canyon Bridge.

For safety reasons, during work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the section of the trail from the Canyon Bridge to DP Road will be closed. Read More

The Los Alamos County Environmental Department Zero Waste Team shares how to create a living wall using an upcycled pallet:

  1. Reuse a pallet from your yard or pick one up at the Eco Station for free;
  2. Staple an old sheet or other recycled fabric to the inside front, back, sides and bottom of the pallet, creating an enclosed pocket;
  3. Reinforce the backside and bottom with hardware cloth;
  4. Fill pallet with soil and moisten;
  5. Lay pallet flat and cross-hatch fabric in 4-6″ intervals;
  6. Plant succulents into the holes;

Aquatic Center Discontinues Lane Reservations

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Walkup Aquatic Center will discontinue the need of lane reservations and will begin recreational swimming sessions in the shallow end of the pool beginning June 28.  

Also starting June 28, locker rooms will be available for use after a swimming session has been  completed. Locker rooms will not be available beforehand, and Aquatic Center staff asks patrons to continue to come work out ready.
