The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) statewide Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist for May 1 through May 19 show a number of positive cases reported at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Los Alamos Fire Department:

The “All Rapid Responses” data is a minimally processed dataset that represents positive cases in the workplace that are reported to the Environment Department through the Department of Health or by employers through the mandatory reporting requirement. Think of it as a readout of all positive cases reported as NMED receives them.

Los Alamos County Student Enrichment Summer Program Accepting Applications May 21 Through June 3

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has been awarded grant funding from the Public Education Department to operate a Student Enrichment Summer Program for adolescents (ages 16-18) in high school to include recent graduates.

The program will run 20 hours a week for six weeks.

Students will have the option to rotate through County Departments or stay in a department for the full 6-week duration.

Less than average snowpack, drier than usual monsoon season and major anniversaries of two large fires are all ingredients in a recipe for disaster. And Los Alamos could be served with an active wildland season this year due to these conditions, the Rotary Club of Los Alamos learned during its meeting Tuesday.

Los Alamos County Proclaims May Older Americans Month

Los Alamos County issued a formal Proclamation to the Los Alamos Retired And Senior Organization (LARSO) in celebration of Older Americans Month.

The senior center staff and volunteers were recognized for their efforts to help seniors throughout the past year. The work included serving 3,000 meals a month, grocery and prescription pick-ups, delivering library books to those homebound and more. DOH COVID-19 Update: 32 Of 33 Counties Now Turquoise

DOH News:
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) announced today the updated statewide COVID-19 map, with 32 of the 33 New Mexico counties now at the Turquoise Level and one at the Green Level, at which there are fewer restrictions on commercial and day-to-day activities amid decreased virus risk.
There are no counties at the Yellow or Red Levels as of May 19. Counties may still backslide with enhancing risk upon the next biweekly map update, however, if vaccination thresholds are not reached and key health metrics indicating the spread of the virus worsen.

Los Alamos County Enters Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Los Alamos Fire Department Fire Marshal Wendy Servey announced today that she is enacting Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for Los Alamos County, effective Monday, May 24.

Servey said the decision was made in partnership with LAFD’s Wildland Division today after reviewing the potential threat of wildfire.

Atomic City Transit Announces Temporary Bus Stop Closure At Diamond Drive And 38th Street

Los Alamos County Atomic City Transit announces today a temporary Stop Closure Notice.

Stop #174 at Diamond Drive and 38th Street will be closed  for the repair of a water line break. This closure will affect Route 5 & 6 outbound trips from the Transit Center.

County: Aquatic Center Closed Entire Day May 24

COUNTY News:

Canyon Road near the Aquatic Center continues to be closed. Crews have been constructing the new water line and tie-ins for the Leisure Lagoon and Aquatic Center.

The Aquatic Center will be closed Monday, May 24 for the entire day to allow for the final connections for the Leisure Lagoon, which also tie to the existing Aquatic Center Building.

The pool is scheduled to reopen May 25.

LAPD Focusing On Accident-Related Violations

LAPD News:

Continuing through the summer, the Los Alamos Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement, focusing on accident-related violations.

There also will be random DWI checkpoints throughout the county during this time frame.
