Atomic City Transit Resuming Regular Operating Hours

COUNTY News:

Atomic City Transit will resume regular operating hours for fixed route and paratransit bus service beginning Monday, May 10.

Service will be provided 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Dial-A-Ride service is provided on a space-available basis 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, after fixed-route service ends. To request Dial-A-Ride, call (505) 661-RIDE (7433) beginning at 6:30 a.m. the day of service.

Peak service is not being provided at this time.

Atomic City Transit continues to maintain employee and passenger safety by complying with public health recommendations. Read More

Los Alamos Democratic Party Hosts County Councilor Denise Derkacs At Virtual Monthly Meeting May 10

Los Alamos Democratic Party News:

The Los Alamos County Democratic Party is holding its monthly meeting virtually at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 10. 

The featured speaker is Los Alamos County Councilor Denise Derkacs who will speak about her first few months in office.

There also will be a budget overview presentation, which will be voted on later this month.

Los Alamos Passes 60% Milestone For COVID Vaccinations

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson announced Thursday afternoon that Los Alamos County has officially surpassed the 60 percent COVID-19 vaccine mark today with 61.1 percent of residents receiving both vaccinations. 

“This is great news for our community,” Simpson said, “It’s a positive sign that we are continuing to head in the right direction and move into a post-pandemic stage of COVID-19 that will allow our businesses and our community to return to more of a day-to-day routine with fewer restrictions very soon.”

County Council Ponders Pedestrian Retail Overlay Zone

Los Alamos County Council voted Tuesday night to approve a motion for the Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) to review a proposed ordinance that will change Chapter 16 of the County Code.

Cleaning up after your dog is one of the less-than-favorable aspects of pet ownership. It is a smelly job, but someone has to do it.

In fact, Los Alamos County has an ordinance that requires pet owners to clean up after their animals.

In section 6-8 of the ordinance it is states, “It shall be unlawful for the keeper of any dog or cat to fail to promptly remove and dispose of in a sanitary manner excrement deposited by the dog or cat.”

County: Help Reduce Contamination In Yard Trimming Carts

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Environmental Services started the curbside yard trimming program in July of 2018. Since then, it has been very successful in collecting residential yard trimming.

About 4,788 or 69 percent of local residents have one-yard trimming cart at their residence. Environmental Services has collected 2,367 tons of residential brush since the start of the program.

The yard trimming material is collected and turned into mulch and sometimes into compost, but only if the material is clean.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced today the updated statewide COVID-19 map for the two-week period beginning today, May 5, with 30 New Mexico counties at the Turquoise Level, at which there are the fewest restrictions on commercial and day-to-day activities amid decreased virus risk.

Aquatic Center Expands Swim Times Beginning May 17

COUNTY News:

Starting Monday, May 17, the Larry H. Walkup Aquatic Center will begin to offer expanded swim time for lane reservations. The expanded lane time will increase from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the session.

Main Pool lap swimming hours are 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and limited to one session per day. 

Also beginning May 17, the Therapy Pool will have an updated schedule: 

Adult only

  • 7:30-8:45 a.m.
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Family Swim

  • 9-10:15 a.m.
  • 12:15-1:15 p.m.
  • 2:45-4 p.m.

Los Alamos Department Of Public Utilities Finalizes Energy Supply Agreement With Uniper Global Commodities

 COUNTY News:

 Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) announced today the completion of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uniper Global Commodities that will provide Los Alamos County with 15 megawatts of firm energy supply over a 15-year period.

The agreement guarantees an energy supply primarily sourced from new wind and solar generation facilities now under development in New Mexico.
