New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 673 New Cases April 24-26, Total 196,844 With 3 New Deaths And 177,866 Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Health officials announced today 673 new COVID-19 cases for the period of April 24-26.

Los Alamos County reports 2 new cases over the last three days bringing the total to 516 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

Today’s update includes 3 new deaths over the 3-day period in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

County Accepting Applications To Fill BPU Vacancy

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County is accepting applications through April 30 to fill a position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

Comprising five voting members, the BPU governs the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a county-owned utility that provides Los Alamos with electric, water, natural gas and wastewater services.

The appointed individual will fill a position to be vacated July 1 due to an expiring term. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 30.

Flagging Operation On Barranca Road Begins Tuesday

COUNTY News:

Crews will be working on Barranca Road, near Camino Encantado beginning at 9 a.m. and ending by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

A flagging operation will be in place. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to slow down and obey all traffic control devices within this work zone.

Crews will be eradicating a crosswalk to consolidate with an existing crosswalk near the bus stop to the east.

This work was planned in coordination with the Atomic City Transit Division, as a safety measure with the existing bus stop.

The Los Alamos County Council and Board of Public Utilities will hold a joint closed session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29. 

The purpose of the joint closed session is to discuss threatened or pending litigation.

Feral Cow Roundup Continues In Bayo And Pueblo Canyons

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Announced that the 2021 operations began today to safely and humanely remove feral cattle from Bayo and Pueblo canyons.

Two cows have been caught in Pueblo Canyon. However, most of the herd have proven difficult, and the roundup and trail closures have been extended to the end of May.

Canyon Rim Trail Underpass 

AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque will continue work to construct the Canyon Rim Trail Underpass.  

Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot and a 100 ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety. During this week’s construction, crews will be working along the westbound and eastbound shoulders of NM 502 to clear and remove vegetation, but no vehicular travel lanes will be impacted at this time.  Read More
