Volunteers Asked To Log Hours; County May Be Able To Include In Request To FEMA For Later Reimbursement Against 25 Percent Match Due To COVID-19

Volunteers donating time and services are asked to log their hours and efforts using a form available on the County’s COVID-19 website: https://losalamosnm.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=6435810&pageId=16645183

Whether residents are spending time helping to deliver meals to vulnerable seniors or making face masks for the community and County first responders, Los Alamos County government would like to know.

Residents should log hours and a description on the form and submit it to the County using the online form found on the link above.

Bears are waking up from hibernation and they will be making their way back into residential areas because of lack of food in the wild and ease of getting it out of trash roll carts.

County Announces Upcoming Budget Hearings, Format

COUNTY News:

Budget hearings are set for April 20, 21, 27 and 28. All hearings begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The format will be the same format used for the March 31 and April 7 council meetings that complies with the recent New Mexico Department of Health’s public emergency order governing mass gathering because of COVID-19.

Public in-person attendance will not be allowed. Minimal County staff will be in attendance in person to present their proposed budget items and all Councilors will be participating using the Zoom conference platform.

Deadline Extended To Submit Application For BPU Vacancy

Los Alamos County is accepting applications until April 30 to fill one position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

The date has been extended from the original April 6 deadline. Comprising five voting members, the BPU governs the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a county-owned utility that provides Los Alamos with electric, water, natural gas and wastewater services.

The appointed individual will fill a position to be vacated July 1 due to an expiring term. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 30.

New Mexico Reported COVID-19 Recoveries Track 10 Days After Reported Positive Tests

The number of COVID-19 cases designated as having recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health tracks 10 days after the number of positive tests for COVID-19. The curve labeled Total Positive Tests is the cumulative number of positive COVID-19 tests. The curve labeled Recovered + Deaths is the sum of total recovered to that date and the total deaths reported by that date. Los Alamos County Library System Closure Updates

LIBRARY News:

Mesa Public Library (MPL) and White Rock Branch Library (WRBL) staff continue to make adjustments and changes to serve the community during the COVID-19 County and State-mandated facilities closures.

County Manager Harry Burgess announced Tuesday that the libraries are among the county facilities remaining closed until April 30 due to the recent order issued by Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham.

Changes Made At Main Gate Park And White Rock’s RV Park Due To Governor’s Amended Public Health Emergency Order

Main Gate Park on the eastern edge of Los Alamos, as well as White Rock’s RV Park next to the Visitor Center, have undergone changes limiting RV parking spaces to comply with the amended Public Health Emergency order issued by the Governor.

Parks crews have placed “do not use” cones at Main Gate Park (leaving two spaces) and the White Rock RV Park (leaving three spaces) in order to meet the requirements to keep both parks below 25 percent of maximum occupancy.

NM Transportation Dept. OKs Food Trucks At Rest Areas

SANTA FE – The Federal Highway Administration has authorized the New Mexico Department of Transportation to allow food vending, such as food trucks, at rest areas statewide during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The department recognizes some commercial truck drivers and travelers may appreciate the convenience of food service at rest areas, minimizing the need to stop in certain towns or communities, which may have limited take out, delivery or dining options.
