Rotary Hears Talk On County Zero Waste Program
Los Alamos County Environmental Services Manager and Rotary Club guest Angelica Gurule recently described the Zero Waste Program, an effort to reduce local waste significantly and increase recycling and the wise use of resources. Gurule explained that County trash is taken to Rio Rancho, but that landfill is expected to close in about six years. In 2018, Los Alamos County produced 14,000 tons of trash costing about $500,000 for transportation and processing. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee this week unveiled the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act (ATIA), which authorizes $287 billion in funding from the Highway Trust Fund for the nation’s surface transportation programs over the next five years.
ATIA represents a 27 percent increase over the highway funding previously authorized under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. National Association of Counties (NACo) Executive Director Matthew Chase issued the following statement:
