Los Alamos County Enters Stage III Fire Restrictions 8 a.m. Friday

LAFD News:

The Los Alamos County Fire Department will issue Stage III Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. Friday, June 1, which will prohibit access to unpaved trail systems within the County.

Fire danger within the County remains very high to extreme due to drought conditions. Stage III Restrictions will remain in effect until significant moisture and conditions have improved.

Library Closing For Improvements Aug. 20

Patrons at Mesa Public Library can look forward to more comfortable conditions inside the library as Los Alamos County prepares to replace the HVAC system and lighting inside the library. However, this also means the library will be closed Aug. 20 through the end of November.

 

Despite the closure, the Library System is making efforts to continue many of its services and programs for the community.

Investigation Finds Chrobocinski In Violation Of Three Sections Of Code Of Conduct

The results of an investigation into a Code of Conduct complaint filed in February by two Los Alamos County employees have been issued to County officials.

The 74-page report, prepared by Albuquerque attorney Debra J. Moulton under contract to the County, was in response to a complaint filed Feb. 15 by Fire Marshal Jeff Wetteland and Chief Building Official Michael Arellano against former County Councilor James Chrobocinski.

Home Renewal Program Cycle 3 Closes Thursday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s Community Development Department and the Los Alamos Housing Partnership (LAHP) would like to remind residents that Cycle 3 of the Home Renewal Program will close Thursday, May 31.

Twelve applications have already been received. Residents who meet income qualifications and require financial assistance to make repairs or improvements to their homes are encouraged to apply for this subsidized loan program. Homeowners are not required to make payments unless the home is sold or vacated.

Residents Invited To Apply For New Advisory Board

COUNTY News:

Residents are invited to apply for a new Community Development Advisory Board. The new board was created by the Los Alamos County Council earlier this month and tasked with making recommendations to the Council regarding the development, implementation and enforcement of County property maintenance codes within the corporate boundaries of the County.

The Los Alamos Art in Public Places Board (APPB) is accepting applications for a vacancy on the Board.
 
Applicants must be Los Alamos residents.

First Judicial District Judge David K. Thomson has continued a motion for summary judgment until needed discovery is complete in a suit filed by Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero against Attorney General Hector Balderas and his records custodian Patricia Salazar.

Police Ramp Up Traffic Enforcement; DWI checkpoints

Beginning now and continuing through the summer months, the Los Alamos Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement focusing on accident related violations to include seatbelt enforcement.

There also will be random DWI checkpoints throughout the county during this time frame.

The public can help reduce the risk of vehicle crashes by adhering to posted speed limit signs, allowing enough room between them and the vehicle they are following and driving with caution when roadways are wet.
