Los Alamos MainStreet would like to shout out a big THANK YOU for the wonderful support that the community, volunteers, partners and sponsors offered throughout this year’s ScienceFest. It takes a village to make ScienceFest a success!

Staff is collecting data on attendance numbers from programming and percentage of sales increase from last year at this time. That data as well as photos will be shared shortly.

LAPD Releases 2017 Second Quarter Crime Statistics

Crime statistics for Los Alamos County for the second quarter of 2017 were released today by Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone. The report contains crimes against persons such as murder/homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault as well as crimes against property such as arson, burglary, larceny and auto theft.

Council Approves Trash And Recycling Rate Increase

Power Outage Affects 1,600 Residents Sunday

COUNTY News:

Approximately 1,600 customers experienced a power outage Sunday in Western Area (circuit 13).

The outage started at 10:08 p.m. and all power was restored by 11:10 p.m. The rest of the town may have experienced a “blink” during that time as power was being restored.

The cause appears to have been a lightning strike to a pole on Trinity Drive and 47th Street. Read More

Community Invited To Take Tennis Court Survey

LATC News:

The Los Alamos Tennis Club (LATC), is conducting a tennis court survey and working with the Los Alamos County Park’s and Recreation Board to determine tennis court requirements as noted by the tennis public.

LATC also wants to help the Los Alamos High School and Junior Varsity teams in addition to the USTA League teams get the number of courts in one location that are required.

LAPD Officers In High Speed Chase

Los Alamos Police Officers were involved in a high speed pursuit Thursday afternoon, which ended in a Colorado man being apprehended in Nambe. Carl Johann Black, 37, of Colorado Springs faces several charges in connection with the chase.

It began around 1:45 p.m. when LAPD Dispatch notified Cpl. David Boe of a possible reckless driver in a silver mini-van traveling along Diamond Drive toward  the mesas. LAFD Ends Stage 1 Fire Restrictions At Noon Today

Fortunately, recent precipitation and milder temperatures have produced a decrease in the fire danger for Los Alamos County. The Los Alamos County Fire Department (LAFD) will lift Stage 1 restrictions today at noon.

The previous fire restrictions were based on dry conditions and higher-than-normal temperatures. Several criteria are utilized to determine when to impose or lift fire restrictions, which include current and predicted weather, fuel moisture, fire activity levels and available firefighting resources.
