Call For Applicants For New Subcommittee

COUNTY News

A subcommittee of the County Council’s ad hoc Tourism Master Plan/ Economic Development Strategic Plan Steering Committee (now known as “Tourism Work Group”) is being created to continue the work of the prior Manhattan Project National Historical Park Committee.

The County is looking for representatives from Los Alamos or White Rock who are interested in serving on this Sub-Committee. Members will be appointed by the Tourism Work Group Chair Susan O’Leary.

Clark: Apology To FOS Volunteers

I was contacted this morning by a volunteer with the Friends of the Shelter who expressed deep hurt at a recent story published in the Los Alamos Daily Post about the organization severing ties with the local animal shelter.

She felt the headline with the word “raid” misrepresented the actions of the volunteers and that the organization’s long history of caring for animals has been diminished.

Reception For New Library Manager Monday

The Los Alamos County Library System would like to introduce the new Library Manager Eileen Sullivan to the community at an informal reception, 6-7 p.m. Monday, July 10 in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa Public Library.

Sullivan started on the job July 3. She is looking forward to meeting people and listening to find out how she and the library can best serve the public.

News Alert: Trinity Drive Closed Between 4th Street And DP Road Closed In Both Directions Through Tuesday

COUNTY News Alert:

Trinity Drive will remain closed between 4th Street and DP Road in both directions through Tuesday, July 11.

This emergency closure is due to a sewer line break.  

East Bound traffic is being diverted to Knecht Street. West Bound traffic is being diverted to Central Avenue.  

Local business access to DP Road is open via eastbound Trinity Drive.

First, I will disclose that I am a representative of one of the independent rescues that was mentioned in the article that receives support from the Friends of the Shelter (FOS) group. This group has both supported and expanded the scope of work the Los Alamos Shelter has been able to do, and support individual and small-shop rescue with spay/neuter vouchers and help with emergency medical funding.

News Alert: West Bound Trinity Drive Road Closure/Diversion Begins At 1 p.m. Today

COUNTY News Alert: 

Public Works Traffic and Streets Division will close West Bound Trinity Drive at 4th Street at 1 p.m. today and divert traffic onto Central Avenue.

This emergency road closure will allow crews to repair a major sink hole that recently developed between DP Road and 4th Street. East bound Trinity Drive will remain open.

LAFD Knocks Down Two Fires In White Rock

This wildfire in White Rock Canyon started overnight by embers from July 4th fireworks at Overlook Park. LAFD said it is not clear wheter the fire works were from the show or random fireworks from individuals in the area. Los Alamos Firefighters doused the blaze overnight, which consumed 5 acres, and are finishing mop up activities this afternoon.
