Final Update On Diamond Drive Water Line Break
COUNTY News:
Diamond Drive at 36th Street re-opened around 3:30 p.m. today following repair of a water line leak.
Los Alamos County Public Works crews will continue to monitor the roadway through the holiday weekend for any signs of compromise after today’s water leak. No impacts for commuter traffic this evening. Read More
Update: County Public Works Fix Broken Water Line
A little after 2 p.m. today, Los Alamos County workers were fixing a hydrant on 36th Street and Diamond Drive. A worker explained when the hydrant was fixed, water valves were re-opened to return water to residents; however, when one valve was turned back on, water started leaking. So the valve was turned off again and workers planned to dig up the valve to see what the problem is and fix it. Residents still have water in their homes, he said. Environmental Services Offers Help To Recycle Glass Correctly

Cardboard boxes and plastic bags were mistakenly tossed in with glass recycleables. Office Specialist Tiffany Pegoda said people tend to use a disposable container to haul their glass to the recycle bin but instead of removing the glass from the container, everything gets tossed into the bin. LAPD Holds Active Shooter Training: ‘Run, Hide, Fight’
Los Alamos Police Officers Sgt. Chris Ross, left, Cpl. Jack Casias and Sgt. Daniel Roberts teach an Active Shooter class today at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building. The instructors taught to the phrase ‘Run, Hide, Fight’, telling people to run if they can, hide if they are stuck, and if the shooter finds you, then fight with whatever you can from hot coffee to sharp pencils. Ashley Pond Algae Treatment Continues
COUNTY News:
Parks Superintendent Jeff Humpton provided an update today regarding recent activity to treat algae in Ashley Pond. The algae has been noticeable to visitors who inquired about whether or not the pond water was “healthy” and was first identified as an issue last year.
The County contracted with a specialist, Jason Rector from Wildcat Environmental, to help with pond management. Last fall, Rector treated the algae in the pond with a product that is an environmentally friendly, safe algaecide. Additionally, the County released 30 sterile grass carp into the pond.
