FOS News:

Chili (formerly known as Adahay) is an adolescent German Shepherd mix rescued from a high-kill shelter – he’s happy to have a second chance at life!

Chili came to the shelter with heartworm, and he has been hanging out in a wonderful foster home, but his foster family is hoping to find a perfect forever home for him.

He is fairly low energy (although this can sometimes be a side effect of the heartworm treatment), and he is friendly and affectionate around people. Chili is housetrained and knows not to get on the furniture; he

Chapman: On Los Alamos County, Progress, And The Tragedy Of The Commons

On Los Alamos County, Progress, and The Tragedy of The Commons.

By RALPH E. CHAPMAN
Resident of Los Alamos County (White Rock)

Having attended the last three public meetings on the Comprehensive Plan for Los Alamos County, I have heard about lots of possibilities for the growth and progress of the County. I have also heard a varied number of opinions about how this should (or should not) happen, coming from the citizens that either were at the meetings, or expressed their opinions using other avenues of communication.

This has gotten me to think a lot about how we can progress as a community while Read More

Letter To The Editor: Fiscal Frugality And County Council — Support Your Local Sheriff

By TERRY GOLDMAN
Los Alamos

I have been mulling over Councilor (Kristin) Henderson’s comments on frugality vs. wasteful duplication in our County government and decided to be very impressed.

I will be even more so when she identifies the five Councilors that she has convinced to join her in resigning from the Council to avoid the wasteful ‘duplication’ of having seven Councilors instead of just one.

Regarding the Sheriff’s position, however, while I have not the slightest reason to suspect any corruption in the current or past Councils, I do recall the Founding Fathers Read More

By KHALIL SPENCER
Los Alamos

If the state law regarding who has the authority to hire and fire deputy sheriffs is as straightforward as stated by Sheriff Lucero in the Los Alamos Daily Post story today (July 2, 2016), then the county administration and Council are grossly out of line.

I would hate for Los Alamos County to be hit by yet another lawsuit resulting from an inability to manage our county properly and according to the law. Let’s get the law straight. Whoever is wrong needs to publicly apologize to the citizens of this county.

Furthermore, if Mr. Burgess really said “…it Read More
