Kathi Parker Exhibit In Library Gallery In November

The work of artist Kathi Geoffrion Parker will be shown in the Mesa Public Library Upstairs Art Gallery in November.

The opening reception for this new exhibit is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3. Parker will show drawings and watercolor paintings, including portraits and life drawings.

Parker is a native of Los Alamos. She was awarded Signature Member status in the New Mexico Watercolor Society in 2004. Her watercolor paintings and drawings have been in juried shows in New Mexico and nationally. Read More

Public Astronomy Dark Night At Overlook Nov. 7

PAJARITO ASTRONOMERS News:

The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding their final County-Sponsored Dark Night of 2015 starting at 5 p.m. (sunset) Saturday, Nov. 7 at Spirio Soccer Field in Overlook Park in White Rock.

Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes, and star gaze. The planets Saturn, Neptune and Uranus will be visible.

There will be a tour of the summer and fall constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies.

Los Alamos Historical Museum Move; Continuing Tours

HISTORICAL MUSEUM News:

In preparation for renovations beginning in January 2016, the Los Alamos Historical Museum has moved to its new temporary location at 475 20th St., next to the new Teen Center.

The Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. As part of the transition, the Museum Shop will be offering 20 percent off select items through Oct. 31.

Last Day For 2015 Bandelier Shuttle Is Tuesday

White Rock Library And Youth Activity Center Closed Due To Sherwood Boulevard Paving

The west side of Sherwood Boulevard is scheduled to be paved Tuesday, which will mean the blocking of driveways leading to the Library, Skate Park, and Youth Activity Center (YAC) at various times during the day Tuesday.

Because there will not be a safe or open route to get to and from the Library and Youth Activity Center during the paving operation, both will be closed.

Los Alamos County Receives 2015 Property Tax Levies From State

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has received its 2015 property tax levies from the New Mexico Department of Finance Administration (DFA).

The residential levy is 24.430 mills, an 8.17 percent increase from the 2014 levy of 22.584 mills. The non-residential levy is 27.496 mills, a 7.19 percent increase from the 2014 levy of 25.652 mills.

In dollar terms, these levies are respectively $24.43 and $27.496 per $1,000 of taxable assessed value.As an example, a house with an assessed market value of $300,000 has an assessed taxable value of $100,000 (1/3 of market). Assuming no other exemptions, the Read More
