Los Alamos Triathlon Celebrates ‘Ruby’ Year Aug. 16

The Los Alamos Triathlon is celebrating its “ruby” 40th year as the oldest, continuously running triathlon in the United States with a challenging sprint triathlon starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 in Los Alamos.
In addition, the 21st annual Kids Triathlon is 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 for kids between three and 10 years of age.
In honor of the Triathlon’s 40th anniversary, all triathletes are encouraged to wear red.

Pet of the Week: Tibet the Cat

SHELTER News:
Tibet is a mellow adult gentleman cat who weighs in at nearly 25 pounds. His veterinary care has been updated, and he is ready for a loving family.
Tibet has been enjoying attention from adults and gentle children. He has done well in the communal cat room that is currently overflowing with cats. He has not shared his opinion on dogs.
Friends of the Shelter will hold a mobile adoption event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the new Smith’s Marketplace. Even if Tibet stays in the safety of the shelter, those interested in adopting him may request an introduction. Read More

Today, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics for the first and second quarter of 2014, which were compiled by the Records Division of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property (property crime).

Shelter Friends Host Mobile Pet Adoption July 26

Friends of the Shelter is sponsoring a Mobile Pet Adoption 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, in front of Smith’s Marketplace in Los Alamos.
Stop by the event and meet some great dogs hoping to find a good home with that special person or family. Volunteers at the event eager to talk with community members about individual animals.

Kai is one of the most recent addition to the dogs at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter. He is a beautiful gray and white, purebred Husky surrendered when his owner moved. By HARRY BURGESSConstruction activities at the Golf Course Community Building have been suspended and the County has formally terminated the contract with Gerald A. Martin, the contractor for the project.
At the request of the contractor, the County will enter into public works mediation to address the situation later this month. The County moved to end the contract after the project manager became concerned about an apparent lack of progress being made on the building. The contractor vacated the work site approximately three weeks ago.
