Los Alamos County Councilors will host a booth at the Farmers’ Market Thursday, June 26. They’ll be visiting with citizens 9-11 a.m. about current projects, issues and other topics.

Airport Manager Peter Soderquist will join the Council at their booth to answer questions and pass out flight schedules for the new commercial airline service being offered between Los Alamos Airport and Albuquerque’s Sunport.

Carter is a small, 13 year old, honey-colored corgi/heeler mix dog that came to the shelter when his family moved. He’s a little confused as to why he is at the shelter after living with a family for so long, and he’s keeping his paws crossed that a new family will come give him the love he deserves.

Officials at the Los Alamos County Airport expect as much as a 30 percent increase in the number of passengers in recent months aboard their Los Alamos–Albuquerque flights.

In May 2014 alone, the airport saw a dramatic 15 percent increase in total passengers flying aboard New Mexico Airlines. The uptick in travelers is likely the direct result of recent schedule modifications and the addition of new flights, according to Airport Manager Peter Soderquist.

Vehicle Impact Damages Rim Road Residence

This home at 98 Rim Road in Los Alamos was damaged shortly before 5 p.m. today when a car crashed into it. The female driver of the car was not injured and no injuries were reported inside the home, which was unoccupied at the time. Los Alamos Police Department personnel and Los Alamos Fire Department crews had to evacuate the entire cul de de sac at the end of Rim Road because the vehicle ruptured a gas line connected to the house. Alert: Car Crashes Into Home Causing Evacuation of Cul De Sac on Rim Road

Los Alamos Police Department personnel and Los Alamos Fire Department crews have evacuated a cul de de sac on Rim Road in Los Alamos after a car collided into a house shortly before 5 p.m. today at 98 Rim Road.

The collision was minor with little damage to the house, but the vehicle ruptured a gas line connected to the house and evacuation was necessary as a precautionary measure. Department of Public Utilities crews were dispatched to the scene of the accident shortly after the 911 call and are currently working to shut off the gas line.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich today announced counties in New Mexico are set to receive approximately $37 million as part of the 2014 Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program, an over 8 percent increase from 2013.

Los Alamos Post Office Listed in State Register of Cultural Properties

State and National Register Coordinator Steven Moffson of the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division has announced that the Los Alamos Post Office was listed June 13 in the State Register of Cultural Properties by the Cultural Properties Review Committee (CPRC).

The Los Alamos Post Office opened in its present location at 199 Central Park Square in downtown Los Alamos in November 1948, on the site of the Ranch School Trading Post. The CPRC also will recommend that it be forwarded for consideration to the National Register.

Artist Sam Tubiolo prepares his bas relief tile mural for installation in the Los Alamos County Council Chambers. The center portion of the mural was de-installed from the old Municipal Building on Ashley Pond, and has been stored in county facilities since that time.
