Three Sightings of Missing Husky Give Shelter Hope

SHELTER News:

Scarlet the Husky is still missing after nearly a month but there were three sightings of her on Sunday, so the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter is encouraged but still very concerned for her safety.

Her territory is DP Canyon next to the Rim Trail. She was seen as far a part as the cliff above Anderson Overlook and behind East Park Pool. Early morning and late evening are the times she is likely to appear. She is shy and hesitant but with a slow, careful approach, it may be possible for someone to gain her trust.

Effective immediately,  Los Alamos County is under Stage I Fire Restrictions.

The following acts are prohibited until further notice:

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using an open fire, campfire, charcoal or wood stove on all Los Alamos County lands. (See Exemption 1)
  • Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3-feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

Council Approves Award of Central Avenue Improvements Project to Century Club Construction

Los Alamos County Council this evening approved 7-0 award of the Central Avenue Improvements Project in the amount of $1,343,521 and the additive alternate in the amount of $827,590 to Century Club Construction of Albuquerque for construction of the project, the establishment of a project budget of $3,042,902 and an associated budget revision of $1,272,902.

Child Life Flighted Following Apparent Drowning Incident at Barranca Mesa Pool

UPDATE: A clarification just in from LAPD: the child was five years old, not eight years old.

An 8-year-old boy is currently being taken via Life Flight to the UNM Children’s hospital in Albuquerque after an apparent drowning incident at Barranca Mesa Pool in Los Alamos earlier this morning.

The child was pulled from the pool non-responsive and lifeguards began immediate rescue efforts while police and fire ambulance crews were being dispatched to the scene.
