Residents and drivers in Pajarito Acres are advised of a possible intermittent traffic control operation on S. Monte Rey Drive in Pajarito Acres in the vicinity of the filming location at 155 S. Monte Rey Dr. beginning at 3 p.m., today April 4.
The same operation was conducted Thursday, April 3 and will be managed by Los Alamos County Police Department or Traffic Division staff in accordance with the County’s Traffic Safety requirement.

County To Begin Annual Weed Spraying Operation
COUNTY News:
The County of Los Alamos Traffic & Streets Division will begin spraying herbicide for weed control on local streets starting next week.
Certified applicators will be applying the herbicide along the gutter/pavement lines throughout the community, on County streets.
The products, DuPont Hyvar X-L and Monsanto Ranger Pro, will be applied during either early morning or late evenings as weather conditions permit. This work will occur on Tuesdays through Thursdays, and continue as needed into June as some areas may require more than one application.

As wildfire season begins, residents are urged to attend an informational event called “Wildfire 2014” 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19 in Fuller Lodge.

Spring Time Splash Bouts Begin April 7

Beginning Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 11, the Aquatic Center kicks off with the Spring Fling at the pool.

Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries Annual Scholarships Deadline Extended
SCHOLARSHIP News:
The deadline for applications for the Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries annual scholarships has been extended to 5 p.m. Monday, April 14.
The Friends will award up to four scholarships of $2,500 again this year and also will administer the June Ettinger Memorial Scholarship.
Any senior enrolled and in good standing at Los Alamos High School, a local private high school, or an approved home study program, who plans to continue his or her education at a recognized institution by September of the year following graduation may apply.

Filming for TV Movie Underway in White Rock
COUNTY News:
Today through Monday, April 7, crews are filming a portion of a Lifetime network, made-for-television movie titled “Jubilee,” starring Tony Goldwyn (from the popular ABC series, Scandal), at a private residence at 155 S. Monte Rey Dr. in Pajarito Acres.
A temporary wall has been constructed on the property near the road, which will be dismantled after filming is completed. Film trucks, trailers, cars and equipment will be staged on site at the residence, as well as on the vacant lot at the corner of N.M. 4 and Rover Boulevard.

If you live in Los Alamos, your pick up starts Monday, April 7 (Monday or Tuesday trash service) or Monday, April 14 (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday trash service).
For those living in White Rock, the start date is April 28 (Friday trash service) or May 5 (Tuesday trash service).
Items that WILL be picked up:
- brush;
- furniture;
- mattresses; and
- large appliances.
Note: All leaves and pine needles should be placed in paper yard bags to allow the County to send them to composting and not the waste stream.

County Council to Address Charter Issues at Special Meeting April 15

The Los Alamos County Council has called a Special Meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.
The purpose of the meeting is for Council to address County Charter items pertaining to the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, whether or not to have a full time County Clerk, and discussion about a path forward for an Election Resolution in order to send these charter items to a vote in the November general election.

Nature Center Construction Set Up Activities Begin on Canyon Road This Week

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is collaborating with Los Alamos County to build a nature center on Canyon Road, scheduled to be finished by Earth Day 2015.
The contractor, Klinger Construction, took possession of the construction site for the Nature Center Friday. Starting next week, residents or motorists in the area may see them mobilizing their equipment, setting up their work site trailer, taking down or setting up fences and other project set up activities.
