Four days remain to apply for a vacany on the Board of Directors of the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD).
Los Alamos or White Rock residents interested in applying for the position are reminded that the deadline for letters of interest is 5 p.m. Monday, March 24.
Mail or hand-deliver a one-page letter of interest to the Los Alamos County Council, c/o County Administrator Harry Burgess, 1000 Central Ave, Ste. 350, Los Alamos, NM 87544.

Suspect Injures Patron While Fleeing Scene at Jemez House Thrift Store in White Rock

POLICE News:
Los Alamos County Police responded to reports of an attempted shoplifting Friday, March 14 at the Jemez House Thrift Store in White Rock. A male subject entered the store and attempted to conceal merchandise without paying for it and was confronted by several store patrons.
While witnesses were attempting to call police, the subject forced his way passed the patrons and left in his vehicle. One of the patrons sustained an injury during this process. The male is described as approximately 40 years of age, 6’2” tall and around 230-250 pounds. He Read More
Los Alamos County Police Detectives Seek Information on Auto Burglary Suspects

POLICE News:
Los Alamos County Police Detectives are searching for information on two male suspects who committed several automotive burglaries in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day.
The suspects were captured on video driving up in a 4-door car in Los Alamos County, exited the vehicle and proceeded to pull on unlocked vehicle doors to steal items. A firearm is one of the reported stolen items.
Anyone who can identify the vehicle or one or any of the suspects may be able to receive a reward of up to $250 for the arrest and prosecution of these suspects.

As the Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries await applications for their annual scholarships from graduating seniors, they are sad to bid farewell to Marie Pierce, who was Scholarship Chairman for many years.
Each year, Pierce made sure that applicants followed the rules, logged in the qualifying applications, and, at the same time, removed the identification of the author and assigned a code letter identifier to each essay. Dirt and Dust From Monday’s Wind Causing Hazy Air Quality Around Los Alamos Today

Los Alamos County Emergency Management Coordinator Phil Taylor reports that the “smoky” conditions around Los Alamos and elswhere in the state are caused by dirt and dust from yesterday’s wind event.
Los Alamos Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider also explained that the wind is carrying smoke from a couple of prescribed burns underway south of Los Alamos.

After a diligent and thorough testing and screening process of approximately 40 applicants, 10 certified applicants were chosen to continue in the testing process. LAPD’s Drug Take Back Day April 26
LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department will hold a DEA Drug Take Back Day with two collections sites 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
This is an opportunity for the public to turn in any old, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.
LAPD will be providing two collection sites:
SITE 1: Los Alamos Medical Center parking lot, specifically the east end along Trinity Drive; and

Ashley Pond Water Clearing Underway
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County Parks Division crews are lowering the water level of Ashley Pond today to start irrigating the turf area.
They will start refilling the pond later this week with fresh water. This process also will remove a large quantity of the muddy water that has been noticeable and should help provide a more clear, natural pond appearance.
With spring weather approaching, there also are plans to reintroduce fish into the pond. U.S. Game and Fish staff are working with Parks Division staff to identify the types of fish that will be re-stocked into the pond. Read More
