First of Four Nights of County Budget Hearings Now Underway
The first of a projected four nights of FY2015-FY2016 budget hearings is underway in Council Chambers at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave. Officials from each department will present their budget to the County Council for approval and each department was instructed to keep their budget flat. Los Alamos Team 4-H planted 49 Ponderosa Pine seedlings Saturday at the Los Alamos County Stables on North Mesa as part of their community service project for 2014.
The group obtained the seedlings from the New Mexico State Forestry Conservation Seedling Program.

Stormy is a 2.5-year-old Flame Point Siamese. A few weeks ago, he went to the vet for a routine dental cleaning, and the vet noticed that he was having difficulty urinating. It turns out that he had some pretty painful bladder stones … poor guy.
But, Stormy is finally starting to feel better after having surgery to remove the bladder stones and getting his teeth cleaned, so he is all ready for a new home.

Improvements to Central Avenue are underway including changes to street and pedestrian lighting, which was being installed Thursday near 20th Street.
Improvements also include mill and overlay of asphalt, upgrade all sidewalk ramps to ADA standards, possible changes to crosswalk locations, concrete pedestrian crossings and tree removal and replacement.

Council voted 7-0 to pursue changing the New Mexico State Statute to reflect that the Clerk position really has the responsibility of a County Clerk and should be full time with a salary that reflects the position. Council Sends Proposed Changes in Utilities Ordinances in the Charter to Voters in Nov. 4 Election
County Council tonight voted 6-1 to move a single question forward to the voters in the Nov. 4,2014 election on proposed changes to the Utilities Ordinances in the Los Alamos County Charter, including a rewrite to Article 5. The changes update language and include giving Council authority over the Utilities Board to remove a board member in the event of undesirable behavior. Join the Walkup Aquatic Center for an Aquatic Egg Hunt 1-2 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Each participant will walk away with toys, candy and some fun.
Each egg qualifies for a different kind of prize. All participants must pay an entrance fee, but the aquatic egg hunt is free. Children may be accompanied by their parents. Babies, infants through 3 years, will hunt for eggs in the Therapy pool. Youth, ages 4 through 16 will be in the main pool shallow-end area. Easter egg hunts will go in wave starts depending on age.
