Construction is in the final weeks for the Los Alamos County Golf Course Community Building seen through the rain Saturday afternoon. The County has received proposals from a number of interested parties for the food and beverage service at the golf course. The evaluation committee is in the process of meeting with each of the proposers to clarify points in their proposals for final scoring. Creativity Flows Through Public Meeting on County’s Trail Signage System
County Open Space Specialist Craig Martin was determined to bring out the creativity in community members attending Tuesday evening’s public meeting at Fuller Lodge on the County’s Trail Signage System project. Citizen Petition On Trapping Presented To Council
Vint Miller of Los Alamos presented a petition during public comment at tonight’s County Council meeting in Council Chambers to request that an ordinance be drafted to prohibit animal traps from being placed within the County. Miller brought a sample of a trap hidden just off a local hiking trail a few weeks ago that injured a friend’s dog. He brought along a PVC pipe crushed by the same trap, saying it could have been a small child that stepped into that trap. Pet of the Week: Sally the dog is a Cairn Terrier mix surrendered to the shelter due to a family move. She is about 3 years old and wants to joyfully greet shelter visitors.
Sally is reported to be good with cats, gentle dogs, adults and gentle children. She weighs in at about 14 pounds and is spayed.

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities was notified by the Department of Energy that it was not able to grant an easement or right of way on proposed DOE sites for well drilling or construction. Responding to DPU’s request to develop the 1,200-acre-feet of San Juan-Chama water on DOE land in lieu of County property in White Rock, DOE stated in its Jan. 29, letter that the proposed sites were not feasible due to safety, security, cultural and environmental concerns.

Central Avenue Improvements Project Public Meeting Wednesday at Fuller Lodge

The Los Alamos County Public Works Department will host a public meeting regarding the Central Avenue Improvements Project (15th Street to Oppenheimer Drive) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Fuller Lodge.
Improvements include:
- Mill and overlay of asphalt;
- Upgrade of all sidewalk ramps to ADA standards;
- Changes to crosswalk locations;
- Concrete pedestrian crossings;
- Tree removal and replacement;
- Changes to planters; and
- Changes to street and pedestrian lights.
The project is in the preliminary design stage with construction planned for the 2014 construction season. Read More
