Lunchtime County Council Meeting Underway

Community & Economic Development Director Anne Laurent and Public Works Director Philo Shelton are presenting an update to Council on Capital Improvement Projects. Council David Izraelevitz gave kudos to Laurent, Shelton and other County staff involved in the many projects that have come in on time or ahead of time and on budget or below budget. Sassy is a big and beautiful 6-year-old chocolate point Siamese. Her coloring is so dark that at first glance she looks like a black cat with blue eyes. 

This spayed female was surrendered for always hiding from the other animals in her home, but she is adjusting to life with other cats in the shelter’s cat room, as long as she has the opportunity to retreat to a safe perch.

She is shy at first, but during quiet times will come out for gentle attention from quiet adults. Sassy is tender-hearted, sensitive and has very good manners. Read More

Wonder What All the Pink Flags Along East Road Are About?

The pink flags seen dotting either side of the road in the east part of town are part of the surveying work underway for the N.M. 502/Trinity Design Project from about the Crossroads Bible Church driveway on East Road  and along Trinity Drive up to Knecht Street. This project is being funded in the FY2014 NMDOT District 5 State Transportation Improvement Program in the amount of $3.8 million. Trinity Drive / DP Road Work Starts Monday!

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s Streets Division will begin working on a new alignment for DP Road and the N.M. 502/Trinity Drive intersection Monday, Feb. 24.

Crews will construct a new intersection alignment required as part of the larger State of New Mexico Department of Transportation’s (DOT) N.M. 502/Trinity Drive roadway project, which extends from Knecht to Tewa Loop. The DOT’s project is in design and will begin 2015.

Arts in Public Places Board to Discuss Native American Pots for N.M. 4 Corridor

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Arts in Public Places Board  will meet at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Tewa Center in San Ildefonso Pueblo.

Board members will meet with artists at San Ildefonso Pueblo to discuss plans and ideas for Native American pots along the N.M. 4 corridor in White Rock.

Los Alamos Voters Name Y’s New Educational Garden

Through a community-wide survey Feb. 3-10, voters selected a name for an educational garden that the Los Alamos Family YMCA will operated on County property this year.  

Of 122 voters, the majority, or 17.5 percent, selected the name Hilltop Garden.  

Additionally, 50 individuals also elected to receive continued information about garden education efforts. The Y and the County are finalizing an operations agreement for the Y to host this garden as a result of a County request for proposals (RFP) process last fall.

Carol Meine, program specialist at Mesa Public Library, will leave her job Feb. 20 to become the new director of the Jemez Springs Public Library Feb. 21.

DQ is a Manx, an ancient breed that originated on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. He likes the comfort and security of his own space, so he is in his own cage at the Shelter where he can hang out without being bothered by other cats.
