Keep Sidewalks Clear – Summer Campaign!
COUNTY News:
In 2002, the County instituted a sidewalk obstruction removal program to clear sidewalks adjacent to homes and businesses of overgrown vegetation.
Clearing crews hired by the County removed overgrown vegetation along sidewalks in Los Alamos and White Rock, leaving clear pathways for pedestrian use.
The program proved a success because:
- The County sidewalks were reclaimed for their intended use;
- It enhanced the appearance of our community‘
- It was a positive response to a problem brought forth by citizens, groups and a County board; and
- Through public information, citizens
County Recreation Division Joins Great American Backyard Campout

Los Alamos County Recreation Division will join thousands of families across the nation, gathering in their backyards, neighborhoods, communities, and parks June 22 to enjoy a night of camping for the Ninth Annual Great American Backyard Campout, organized by the National Wildlife Federation.
Join Smokey Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog, and Bert the Squirrel for camping games, songs, prizes and star gazing at Overlook Park June 22. Dirty Players Wanted for High Mountain Mudfest 2013
COUNTY News:
Registration in underway for the 9th Annual High Mountain Mudfest Mud Volleyball Tournament, hosted by the Los Alamos County Recreation Division.
The Adult Coed Competitive Tournament starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at the North Mesa Mud Pits.
Teams must have 6-12 players, 18 and older, with at least four women per team.
The cost is $130 per team and the deadline to register 5 p.m. Thursday, July 18.

Los Alamos Airport Adjusts Schedule to Meet Frequent Flyers Needs
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos Airport (LAM) issued a revised schedule today for New Mexico Airline flights between LAM and Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ.)
The new schedule affects ONLY the departure and arrival times of the flights returning from ABQ to LAM to accommodate the travel needs of maximum number of flyers who have expressed interest in using the service on a regular basis.

Ashley Pond Fish Too Sick To Save

The County’s contractor, RMCI, will begin moving on to Ashley Pond this week after placing construction site and security fencing around the pond last week.
The project superintendent will be moving onto the site with a construction trailer this week. Residents will notice that the water level in Ashley Pond continues to drop, as the contractor works to lower and empty the pond for the renovation work to get underway. A tentative date for initial excavation is June 18.

She took a few days to figure out that the cat room isn’t a big scary place, and once her friend Wickham comes out for some attention, Bingley isn’t far behind.

A memo posted on the project website June 5, 2013 states that this has already been accomplished by Duck Buddies, even though the ducks were there this morning (Thursday) when I took my kids to feed them. The ducks are lucky to have this group dedicated to their well being.

This morning, County Council Chair Geoff Rodgers and Utilities Board Vice Chair Tim Neal jointly announced that for the moment all activity will cease on the proposed test wells in White Rock Canyon to develop the County’s San Juan/Chama water rights.
This hiatus will allow Councilors time to better understand issues surrounding the San Juan/Chama water rights, determine appropriate policy steps, and provide direction to the Board of Public Utilities.
