County Ice Rink 2024-25 Season Passes Available

COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Ice Rink has announced that season passes are now available for the 2024-2025 skating season.
With a range of pass options, everyone can enjoy the community rink’s regular skating sessions, hockey sessions and lunch-hour skates.
Season Passes for the 2024-2025 Season:
All passes are valid through the 2024-2025 Ice Rink season for regularly scheduled public skating sessions. Passes cannot be used for special events. Upon purchasing a pass online, customers should bring their receipt to the Ice Rink, where staff will take their picture and issue the pass. Read More

The Los Alamos Aquatic Center will be closed all day Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, in honor of Veterans Day. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Brewer Arena Improvement Proj. Phase One Begins Nov. 11

COUNTY News:
The Brewer Arena Improvement Project Phase One is about to get underway. Phase one is the demolition of the grandstand and shade structure. This phase of the improvement project will begin with the staging of equipment on-site starting Monday Nov. 11, as contractors prepare for demolition. Demolition of existing structures will officially commence Wednesday, Nov. 13.
This project marks Phase One of a larger design plan for the grandstand, including the necessary ADA improvements. Once demolition begins, the site will become an active work zone.

Los Alamos County Offices Closed On Veterans Day Nov. 11
In observance of Veterans Day, Los Alamos County government offices and services will join other federal, state and local governments closing Monday, Nov. 11, 2024.
The County’s administrative offices, Atomic City Transit fixed bus routes, and the Environmental Services division will be closed Monday.
In addition, the following facilities will have modified hours:
- White Rock and Mesa libraries – Open from 1-5 p.m.
- Aquatic Center and Leisure Lagoon – Closed
- Golf Course – Closed
- Environmental Services commercial/residential refuse/recycle services
Final Climate Action Plan Goes To Council For Consideration

After more than a year of extensive community engagement and research, Los Alamos County’s Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule will present the final Climate Action Plan (CAP) to the County Council for adoption consideration. She will also ask Council to consider adopting an emission reduction target of carbon neutrality by 2050.
The presentation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Council meeting in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.

The Betty Ehart and White Rock Senior Activity Centers will be closed today due to snow. All programs are canceled and regular services are not available.

Some Non-essential County Svcs./Facilities Staying Closed
Due to inclement weather, some non-essential County government facilities will remain closed today, Friday, Nov. 8.
These include the senior centers, Teen Center, youth activity centers, Family Strengths Network, and visitor centers.
All other County facilities and services are open for business, including the Nature Center.
County Traffic and Street crews continue to clear the major roads and streets according to the FY 2024 Snow and Ice Plan.

During the Los Alamos County Library Board’s November meeting, Senior Librarian-Public Service Liza Rivera presented an overview of the adult summer reading program for 2024.
The Beanstalk app, used by the Library, is a web-based reading and activity tracker that helps users track their reading, participate in challenges, and earn digital badges. Beanstalk awards badges for completing a book, attending a program, and other activities. The badges can then be used to win prizes. Non-Essential County Government Facilities Will Open Today

COUNTY News:
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Los Alamos County, with temperatures expected to drop below freezing tonight.
In response to these conditions, Acting County Manager Linda Matteson has ordered a 10 a.m. start for all non-essential County government services and facilities Friday, Nov. 8.
Some variations to County services are as follows:

Local results in Tuesday’s 2024 General Election include two bonds for UNM-Los Alamos, which passed with strong support. The first bond had 8,144 votes for or 73% and 2,971 against or 27%. The second bond passed with 7,317 votes or 67% and 3,620 against or 33%.
The following candidates ran unopposed:
- Dist. 5 State Sen. Leo Jaramillo garnered 5,663 votes.
- State Sen. Roberto ‘Bobby’ Jesse Gonzales garnered 2559 votes.

Los Alamos Acting County Manager Linda Matteson has ordered the closure of all non-essential County government facilities today, Nov. 7, due to inclement weather.
This includes the Municipal Building, Aquatic Center, libraries, Golf Pro Shop, Eco Station and White Rock Convenience Center, senior centers, Social Services, Nature Center, Teen Center, youth activity centers, History Museum, Fuller Lodge and Art Center, and visitor centers.

Social Services Shares Locations For Individuals Who Need To Get Inside From Inclement Weather
COUNTY News:
During inclement weather, individuals stranded or otherwise facing the elements may find themselves in need of a safe place to stay warm.
Los Alamos County Social Services Division has identified several locations where individuals can temporarily seek shelter to warm up. While these sites may not offer full amenities such as restrooms, they provide a safe environment to avoid the elements.
