UNM: Autism Training For Spanish Speaking Community

UNM News:

The Autism Programs at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is now offering presentations for Families whose first language is Spanish.

The series, “Hilos sobre el Autismo” will be presented 1-2:15 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. A topic of interest to families will be presented monthly over the internet via Zoom.

Each free presentation will offer an opportunity for participants to engage and discuss the topic as well as connect with other New Mexico families.

Los Alamos STEAM Lab kicks their affordable tutoring program this month. 

Tutoring has been an area of need in the community since before the pandemic and it has only become more necessary as the town works to close gaps.

This program makes use of quality curricula purchased with generous support from Los Alamos JJAB and designed to “fill the gaps”.

PAC 8 is offering a “Drone Flying and Videography” class over Spring Break 9 a.m. to noon March 28-31, for students aged 13-18.

A few years ago, I would go down to the BMX track in Albuquerque a few times throughout the year. Despite my love for the sport, I could not frequently participate because the 2-hour drive to Albuquerque was too time-consuming.

According to the Sports Planning Guide, BMX has been on the rise over the last decade, and from the years 2013 to 2016, made a 43 percent jump in people riding bikes, making it one of the hottest outdoor sports. EL RITO — The Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) Trades program has partnered with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters to offer free Carpentry Training Camps to prepare participants to be job-ready for expanding opportunities in the construction trades.

Carpenters are critical to today’s construction industry, responsible for upwards of 80 percent of most projects. DWS projects a demand for more than 6,000 carpenters by 2028, with a median annual wage of $38,430.

Honors Courses Are Being Phased Out

When I signed up for two Honors courses and one AP course this year, I thought that the Honors course would have the same Grade Point Average (GPA) boost as the AP course that I was taking. When I realized I wouldn’t receive a GPA boost for an Honors courses, I was shocked.
