The Los Alamos-Japan Institute (LAJI) invites the community to a discussion on Japanese museums’ perspectives on peace, new exhibitions in Kyoto and Fukushima as well as art, artifacts and sacred human stories teaching peace in museums today.

This talk is 5 p.m. Monday, March 7.

Participating in the conversation are Japanese museum leaders from the Kyoto Museum for World Peace at Ritsumeikan University, the International Network of Museums for Peace and Japan’s new Dengonkan Peace Museum in Fukushima.

The Los Alamos County Council and the Los Alamos School Board met in joint session Monday, Feb. 28 to discuss three joint projects that are in the planning stage.

The projects, a gymnasium to be used by Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) and the community as well, a gym or recreational facility in White Rock and building more tennis courts for both public and School District use have been discussed for approximately six years. UNM-Los Alamos Hits Record Spring 2022 Enrollment!

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) hit record enrollment this Spring Semester with its unofficial numbers released after the first 15 days of this semester. This is despite the nationwide trend of declining enrollments, especially at two-year institutions. 

The total number of students taking classes this semester is 1,290, up from 1,110 last Spring. The previous record was 1,151 in Spring of 2018. The largest growth is in the number of part-time students.

New Mexico Education Leaders Investing $3 Million In State’s Youngest Learners

SANTA FE — The Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) is partnering with education nonprofit Waterford.org to help more children prepare for kindergarten in New Mexico.

ECECD is investing $3 million, while Waterford is investing an additional $1 million into the program. Research shows that Waterford Upstart has helped hundreds of children in New Mexico prepare for kindergarten, and now the state is hoping the program will work for thousands more.

LAPS Brings Hummingbird Music Camp To LAMS

Although members of the jazz band and jazz orchestra weren’t able to travel to the Hummingbird Music Camp in the Jemez Mountains this year, music teachers brought Hummingbird to Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS).

LAMS music teacher Ryan Finn conducted the Jazz Orchestra, while Will Finn led the Jazz Band.
