UC Board Of Regents Votes To Bid On LANL Contract

The University of California Board of Regents voted Thursday to authorize a bid for the $2.2 billion Los Alamos National Laboratory management and operations contract, which begins in October 2018.

The 10-campus UC has been involved with the Lab since the 1940s and since 2006, has been part of the LANS, LLC consortium, which holds the M&O contract.

New Mexico Makes Substantial Strides In Engaging Parents About Their Child’s Early Reading

SANTA FE  More parents and families than ever before are being notified of their students’ early reading progress. Two years ago, only 8 percent of families were notified mid-year when their child was reading below grade level. This past year, that number jumped to 57 percent.

At the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board meeting Nov. 13, UNM-LA CEO Dr. Cindy Rooney presented Advisory Board member Pat Soran with a ceramic vase created by instructor Barb Yarnell in appreciation for the ceremonial mace, which Soran provided to the college for the May 2017 graduation. Soran created the mace, incorporating a unique UNM-LA symbol provided by instructor Skip Canfield. LAMS Library Raises Funds For New Book

LAMS News: 

After removing worn out, old and unappealing books, the library staff at Los Alamos Middle School needs to buy some new ones to keep students reading.

To accomplish this, an account was established on MackinFunds called Books 4 Hawks to collect donations for new books. The goal is to raise $5,000.

The community is encouraged to contribute, even a small amount, to help make the middle school library collection better. Students want new and exciting books and library staff want them to continue reading.

ALBUQUERQUE  State Auditor Tim Keller released a special audit of the University of New Mexico (UNM) Athletics Department Friday and its related institutions including the UNM Foundation and the Lobo Club.
