UT Regents Postpone Vote On LANL Contract Proposal

University of Texas News:

University of Texas System Board of Regents has postponed until Nov. 27 a vote on whether to submit a proposal to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to manage and operate Los Alamos National Laboratory.

In September the Board voted to spend $4.5 million to pursue the contract and when the final request for proposals was published Oct. 26, Deputy Chancellor David E. Daniel issued a statement that the UT team was “deeply engaged in developing the most responsive thoughtful plan possible” for future management of the Lab.

The Hilltopper Basketball red chile powder fundraiser is under way. Each Lady Basketball player, C team JV and Varsity player will be given 20 red chile bags to sell.
 
All proceeds from this fundraiser will help defray the cost of expenses within the basketball program.
 
The donation for each bag of chile would be a minimum of $12 for each 1-pound bag.

Native Hawks Host Fundraiser At Smith’s

Navajo poet Sherwin Bitsui will read his poetry at UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) at 1 p.m. Nov. 15 in the UNM-LA Library as part of the celebration of National Native American Heritage Month on campus.

A Diné (Navajo), Bitsui studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe and now teaches for the MFA in Creative Writing for the IAIA. His honors include the 2011 Lannan Literary Fellowship, a Native Arts & Culture Foundation Fellowship for Literature, a PEN Open Book Award, an American Book Award and a Whiting Writers Award.

Dr. Joyce Guzik will reveal the inner workings of the Sun at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. Then, the full-dome film Exploding Universe will play in the planetarium at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12.
